Note:  USA plays two games again today: Cuba at 2pm, Puerto Rico at 5pm.

Puerto Rico first team to score off USA which quells late rally


Top 1st:  Facing Chelsea Thomas, Puerto Rico attacked quickly, Nazario started the game with a single, and stole 2nd.  Figuero grouded to 1st, Nazario to 3rd.  Daniels struck out; Claudio fouled out to Stacy May-Johnson playing short.

Bottom 1st: With Camacho pitching for PR, Top of the order, Michelle Moultrie singled.  Kelly Grieve grounded to the pitcher.  May-Johnson was hbp.  Kaitlin Cochran walked, loading the bases with one out.  Jenae Leles looked at a third strike.  Arioto walked, rbi, forcing in Moultrie.  Christi Orgeron also looked at a third strike.  1-0, USA.


Top 2nd: Lozano opened with a single, advanced to 2nd on Cabrera’s sac bunt.  Lopez flied to center, and Santos struck out looking.

Bottom 2nd:  Ashley Holcombe struck out looking.  Ashley Holcombe grounded to 3rd.  Moultrie grounded to 2nd.


Top 3rd:  Melendez lined to short.  Nazario and Figueroa struck out swinging.

Bottom 3rd:  Ramos relieved Camacho.  Grieve singled to left, but was forced by May-Johnson 6-4.  Cochran reached on an error at 1st, May-Johnson to 3rd.  Leles hit into a fielder’s choice, 5-2, May-Johnson out at home. With Cochran on 3rd, Leles on 2nd, Arioto grounded to 3rd.  The USA had one run on six hits.


Top 4th:  Daniels flied to left. Claudio and Lozana struck out swinging.  Thomas now had 6 Ks.

Bottom 4th: USA added to its lead.  Orgeron doubled, advanced to 3rd on Holcombe’s sac bunt.  Hoagland reached on an error at short, Orgeron scored. Hoagland was out at 1st 7-4-3. Moultrie tripled, and scored on Grieve’s second single of the game.  May-Johnson singled.  Garay relieved Ramos.  Cochran grounded to 3rd.


Top 5th: Now trailing 3-0, Martinez, pinch hitting for Cabrera, struck out.  Lopez fouled out to short.  Santos struck out.  Eight for Thomas.

Bottom 5th:  Leles walked.  Arioto walked.  Orgeron, who had a double, triple and homer last night, and a double this game, flied out to left.  Runners at the corners, one out, Holcombe at bat, Arioto stole 2nd; Holcombe struck out.  Hoagland walked, loading the bases again for USA.  Top of the order, Moultrie struck out.  USA had 6 hits, plus 5 walks, but stranded ten runners.


Top 6th:  Melendez struck out.  Nazario grounded to Thomas. Figueroa walked.  Daniels grounded out to 3rd.

Bottom 6th:  Grieve struck out.  May-Johnson singled, and advanced on Cochran’s sac bunt.  Leles doubled to center, rbi.  4-0. Gibson in to run for Leles.  Arioto drew her third walk.  Orgeron  looked at a third strike.  Two more runners stranded.


Top 7th:  Daniels grounded out to Thomas.  Claudio singled, the third PR hit.  With Daniels up, Claudio advanced on a wild pitch.  Daniels singled up the middle, Claudio to 3rd.  Osterman pinch hit for Martinez, singling through left side, driving in Claudio for the first run scored off the USA in four games.  Two on, one out, Lopez grounded to 3rd, the runners advancing to 2nd and 3rd.  Santos, the potential tying run, struck out swinging.
