Worst Airline Experiences

Took 16 hours to reach Santa Ana this evening (Batbuster/Surf City pre-Thanksgiving).  Once again, a flight booked thru United became a booking through Continental, the world’s worst airline.  The 7am connection to Newark never arrived, and waiting passengers were told to collect their luggage at baggage claim, and go to Reagan National for a connection thru Newark that would put them in California about 1230am.  I refused, and as a Premier member, persuaded United to cancel Continental and book me to Santa Ana thru Chicago.  At O’Hare, United announced it would use a smaller aircraft and anyone who did not already have a boarding pass was SOL.  Fortunately, I had Premier and got the last seat in the middle between two bulky gentlemen who squirmed the whole trip.

Could have been worse.  Flying Spirit from Ft Lauderdale a few weeks ago (sat on the tarmac for an hour while mechanics worked on the plane), witnessed a procession of people using the toilet up front. One woman came out, apparently without flushing.  The next woman stepped in, then stepped out, and told the attendant that a driver’s license was floating in the bottom of the bowl.  They alerted the previous sittee, who, after checking, confirmed that it was her license.  The attendants did not offer to retrieve the license, so the woman had a Hobson’s choice – retrieve the license, which is all importsant in air travel, or, flush it.  She retrieved it.  Not sure why she had her license out in the john.

What Recession?

A bidder put up $30,000 for a tooth which allegedly was John Lennon’s.  In a different auction, a man paid $8,000 for Kylie Minogue’s panties.  The cockpit recording made on Air Force One after JFK’s assassination is being offered at $500,000.  As P.T. Barnum said….
