NEW ASA COMMISSIONERS
The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America recently announced new commissioners have been selected for Oklahoma ASA, Seattle-Tacoma ASA, Texas ASA and Utah ASA.
Oklahoma ASA – The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America announced November 19 that JoAnn McGuire of Enid, Okla., has been named the commissioner for Oklahoma ASA. McGuire, who has served as the Junior Olympic (JO) Commissioner since 1990, replaces Virgil Ackerson, who has retired.
Seattle-Tacoma ASA – ASA announced November 16 that Michael Rabin of Woodinville, Wash., has been named the Seattle-Tacoma ASA Commissioner, effective Dec. 31, 2010. Rabin will replace Joe Wilson who is retiring from ASA after 16 years of service.
Texas ASA – ASA announced November 17 that Rodney Cobb of San Marcos, Texas, has been appointed the commissioner of Texas ASA. He assumed his duties last week during the 79th Annual Governing Council Meeting in Shreveport, La.
Utah ASA – ASA announced November 19 that Steve Rollins of Layton, Utah has been named the commissioner for Utah ASA. Rollins, a 33 –year ASA veteran umpire, served as a district commissioner for Utah ASA for 11 years and has served as the state Umpire-In-Chief for a total of seven years.

PITCHER NEEDED
Christina Brock, asst coach at NC A&T advises they need a pitcher for the upcoming spring season. They could use a JC player, a player who has been released from another program or a high school senior who would be in a position to graduate at semester.

Mississippi State Winter Clinics
The Bulldogs open the instruction-filled weekend with a coaching clinic on Jan. 28. The session, which runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., covers drills, suggested practice plans and much more along with the opportunity to interact with Mississippi State’s veteran coaching staff.
Two separate sessions, an all-skills clinic and a junior high pitching and catching clinic, open the camp sessions on Jan. 29. The winter clinics conclude Jan. 30 with a hitting clinic and a high school pitching and catching clinic.

LAS VEGAS SKILLS CLINIC
The Fastpitch School Presents TFS Las Vegas All Skills Clinic
Sunday December 5, 2010,9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Henderson, Nevada
This clinic is designed for softball players age 9-18 years old
Camp designed for beginner, intermediate and advance depending on skill level. The clinic will feature offensive, defensive and pitching instruction in the morning and afternoon sessions. Skills instruction will be tailored for beginner, intermediate and advance players based on their skill set and level. There will be a lunch break between Noon-1 p.m. Each player is responsible for their own lunch arrangements.
Cost is $65.00 per player

SOFTBALL PLAYING AT ASIAN GAMES
China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, (South) Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand have all been competing in women’s fast pitch softball at the 16th Asian Games currently taking place in Guangzhou, China. Round robin play began last Friday and concluded today. Tomorrow is a day off for softball before the playoffs on Thursday (Japan vs. Chinese Taipei followed by Korea vs. China). The medal games will take place on Friday. All games are taking place at Tianhe Softball Field, in the middle of the city center. Japan is the defending Asian Games softball champion (2006 in Qatar).
ISF President Don Porter was at the Asian Games last week and has now gone to Lausanne, Switzerland, for the annual IF Forum. ISF Secretary General Ms. Low Beng Choo is still in Guangzhou at the softball competition. YOUTH CUP JUST OVER A MONTH AWAY
In 37 days the first pitch will be thrown at the Easton Foundation Youth World Cup at the ISF world headquarters in Plant City, Florida. The tournament is a fast pitch event comprised of (age) 16-and-under girls’ teams. A total of 24 teams will participate, representing the Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, China, (South) Korea, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Russia, and USA.
