ASA President-elect, locations of 2013 ASA National Championships determined

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Southern California ASA Commissioner Phil Gutierrez is the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America President-elect, the association announced today at the 80th Annual Council Meeting in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The association also announced the locations for 2013  ASA National Championship tournaments including the ASA/USA Softball Fast Pitch National Championships and adult slow pitch tournaments.

Gutierrez is the Southern California ASA Commissioner. In November 2013, he will take the reins from Mississippi ASA Commissioner E.T. Colvin, who will begin his two year term as ASA President on Thursday. Andy Dooley, Piedmont ASA Commissioner, is in the last days of the term he began in November 2009.

In ASA National Championship news, the 2013 ASA/USA Softball Girls’ GOLD 18-Under Fast Pitch National Championship will be played in Clearwater, Fla. The other ASA/USA Softball sites include the 18U in Sterling, Va., 16U in Sunnyvale, Calif., 14U in Normal, Ill., 12U in Chattanooga, Tenn., and 10U in Bowling Green, Ky. For the Girls’ 10-Under, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U Junior Olympic (JO) slow pitch tournaments, North Mankato, Minn., will host.

The Men’s Major Fast Pitch National Championship will be played in South Bend, Ind., while Salem, Ore., will host Men’s Class A and B. The Men’s 23-Under is in North Mankato, Minn.  Prescott, Ariz., will host the Women’s Major, Class A and Class B.

In adult slow pitch action, Oklahoma City was awarded the Slow Pitch Men’s Class A and Class B National Championships and the Women’s Open. Tupelo, Miss., will host the Men’s Masters 35-Over and Men’s Masters 45-Over. Montgomery, Ala., will host Men’s Masters 40-Over. The Men’s Church will be hosted by Dallas, Texas, while Ridgeland, Miss., will host Men’s Industrial. The Men’s 16 Inch Major will be in Mt. Prospect, Ill.
