JAPAN RETAINS ASIAN GAMES TITLE
Japan’s women’s national softball team defeated China, 2-0, in the gold medal game at the 16th Asian Games to successfully defend the top spot at that multisport event after having finished first at the last edition, four years ago in Qatar. Chinese Taipei was the 2010 bronze medalist. Also taking part in the competition were (South) Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand, with the games having been played at Tianhe Softball Field, in the middle of the city center in Guangzhou, China. More from the 2010 Asian Games softball competition can be found online at http://www.gz2010.cn/en/.

This was the sixth straight Asian Games appearance for softball (women’s fast pitch), dating back 20 years to the 11th edition, which took place in Beijing, China, in 1990. Softball – in some cases both men’s and women’s – is also on the programme of at least a dozen other multi-sport Games.

Thorson opened the 2008 season in a Chicago Bandit uniform where she has played the past three seasons. Her 43 career wins places her among the all-time leaders in NPF history.

“I am excited to be coming to Akron to meet the Racers fans. I know how loyal the Akron fans are and I’m looking forward to my first start in Akron as a Racer. “

Thorson has a championship ring and three regular season championships to her credit as a Bandit.  “Kristina is a veteran performer and has had a lot of success in a league that shows no mercy. I like our chances for success with her in the circle,” commented Racers GM, Joey Arrietta.
