LSU 10, BYU 6
WP Fico  LP Umphlett
A scoring donnybrook in which LSU’s hitters bailed out their pitchers. The Tigers drew first blood when leadoff AJ Andrews, so speedy she could give running lessons to jackrabbits, singled and scored ahead of Allison Falcon’s homer. BYU’s leadoff JC Clayton singled and scored on an error at short.  The teams traded runs in the 3rd, Andrews beat out an infield hit to 2nd, scored on Bianka Bell’s double.  BYU answered when Clayton singled again Katie Manuma’s 2-out double to center.  LSU added a run in the 4th; very impressive, hard hitting freshman doubled to left, scoring on Katie Guillory’s rbi.  The lead blossomed to 6-2 with 2 runs in the 5th – a Falcon singled followed by a Tammy Wray 2-out homer.  The lead looked safe for starter Meghan Patterson  until bottom 6th when BYU talled 4 runs to tie.  After Carly Duckworth reached on a Patterson error, Megan Arnold slugged a 2-run shot.When the next batter singled, Rachele Fico, the Tigers strikeout artist, walked two batters, loading the bases. Marisso Bravo hit a ground-rule double for the tie.  LSU, which starts 2 of the 5 freshmen on the roster, didn’t flinch.  Bases loaded, Simmons jacked a grand slam, 10-6.  Fico, who was missing the corners in the 6th, gave up an infield single to start the 7th, the fanned three batters – each looking at third strikes.  Coach Torina praised Fico’s rescue effort, coming after a damaging 6th, but also lauded her freshmen, Simmons and Bell.

Florida 8, Loyola Marymount 2
WP Rogers  LP Medeiros.  Very workman like effort by the Gators who were outhit 8 to 6 but made the most of their opportunities.  After LMU scored top 1st, the Gators scored 3 in the 2nd 3 in the 3rd and 2 final runs in the 7th.  Damico and Little had 2 rbi each; Haeger, Schwartz, Horton, and Medina has rbi’s.

Oklahoma 5, Georgia 0
WP Ricketts 11Ks.  LP Montemayor.  OU scored top 1st; Chamberlain singled; scored on Shults’ rbi single.  In the 2nd, Parson was hbp; Chamberlain walked; Casey rbi single; Shults 2-run double.  In the 6th, Pendley singled, and showing some speed, scored on Williams single.

Florida 2, Loyola Marymount 0
WP Haeger.  LP Freeman.  Scoreless until 6th.  Castro walked; one out, Toft singled; Fuller hbp loading the bases.  Espinoza relieved Freeman.  Gammel hit into fielder’s choice, Castro out at home, on error Toft scored.  Schwarz drove in the second run.

Missouri 13, Maryland 1
WP Thomas.  LP Martin.  The Tigers scored 9 runs in the 2nd, propelled by Roth’s grand slam.  Randazzo had 2 rbi; Crane, Genovese, Krebs one each.  Acosta drove in the Maryland run.  Seven of the Tiger runs were charged to Maryland relief pitchers.

Washington 7, Virginia 1
WP Walker.  LP Mitchell.  Wright had 5 rbi including a homer for the Huskies who scored 3 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th.  Johnson drove in the Cavaliers run.

Tennessee 7, Long Beach State 0
WP Ellen Renfroe; Erin Gabriel pitched the last 2 innings.  LP Erceg, who gave up 6 runs in 3 innings; Hansen finished.  Dotson had 2 rbi; Shipman, Tarango and Gaffin had one rbi each. 

 

Oklahoma 5, Arizona 0
WP Gascoigne.  LP Pinon, who was charged with 2 runs; reliever Bowling was charged with 3 runs.  In the 4-run Sooner 5th, Shults jacked a shot off Pinon; Ricketts immediately followed with a HR off Bowling, who also yielded a 2-run homer to Vest.  Gascoigne held the Wildcats to 3 hits.

Oklahoma State 3, BYU 2
WP Freeman, who pitched 4 innings, reliever Espinosa 3.  LP Almond.  Ettinger (solo), Graham and Mikkleson had rbi for OSU.

Missouri 3, San Diego State 1
WP Erwin.  LP   .  The Tigers broke a 1-1 tie with 2 runs in 6th, after Muller and Jones drew walks and were doubled home.  LP o”Toole.

Arizona 4, Long Beach State 3
WP Bowling 2 innings in relief of Babcock.  LP Jones-Wesley.   LBSU came within an out of upsetting Arizona, leading 3-1 after 6 innings, thanks to a 2-run homer in the 6th by Tautalafua.  The Wildcats scored three top 7th.  Goodacre drove in 2 runs, DelPonte one.

Oregon State 11, Colorado State 0
WP Demore.  LP Snyder who was charged with 5 runs; Randles yielded the other 6. Cavestany had 5 rbi including a grand slam homer.  Hampton hit a 2-run shot.

Loyola Marymount 1, Cal State Fullerton 7
WP Antunez.  LP Waldusky.  LMU’s Sandoval scored bottom 1st; after that it was all Titans.  Carter, Tauchiyama, Ybarra, Crawford, Mario, Harris and Sheffler all contributed rbi,  Antunez had 7K.

San Diego State 2, Virginia 5
WP Mitchell.  LP Arbino.  Cavaliers scored 4 runs in 3rd.  Hawkins homered for Virginia, Jordan for SDSU.

Washington vs USSSA Pride

Oregon State 8, Maryland 0.
WP Andreana 1-hitter.  Beavers scored 2 in 6th, inc Hampton homer, and 3 in 7th.

Tennessee 5, Cal State Fullerton 0
