WP Paige McDuffie.  LP Rachele Fico.  Tight defensive contest.  The Tigers won all the statistical battles except the scoreboard.  Tigers had 7 hits to 3; Fico had 9 Ks to 3.  Bottom 2nd:  Leading off, Tiamalu was hbp and advanced on Sataraka’s double; Moaei drive in two runs with a hard hit single through the circle.  UCLA had 2 on by walks in the 3rd with one out, and 2 on through an error and walk in the 5th with no outs.  Fico bailed out of both threats with strikeouts.  Of the Tigers 6 hits, three were infield hits by their fleet-footed hitters.  But a 3rd inning leadoff double by Heyward went for naught.  Similarly, a leadoff single by Alcaraz followed byan infield single by Andrews with one out yielded nothing.  Finally, the Tigers stranded two runners in the 6th, singles by Houston and Heyward were nullified by good defensive plays by the Bruins.  LSU now 14-2, UCLA 12-1.


Northwestern 10, LIU 9
WPLetourneau  LP Vondrak.  LIU led 9-8 after six innings, but the Wildcats, who won all 5 games here, rallied for 2 runs top 7th.  Lamberth drove in the 7th inning game winning run. Bast had 2 rbi on 3 hits, including a homer.  Scharkey drove in 3;

Nebraska 2, Florida State 0
WP Edwards.  LP Waldrop.  Huskers scored both runs, top 4th, on Edwards 2-run rbi.  Nebraska 11-2.  FSU 9-6.

Georgia Tech 1, Illinois 0

Utah 5, Ohio State 4

UCLA 13, Nevada 4 (5)
WP Carda  LP Dortch.  Reliever Brewer was charged with 8 of UCLA’s runs. The Bruins took command immediately with 5 runs bottom 1st.  After one run in the 2nd, UCLA racked 5 more in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th  to finish the Classic 5-0.  Bates had 3 rbis, hitting her 10th homer.  Sprawls also went yard, a 2-run shot.  Sataraka had 2 rbi on 3-3 hitting.  LaRosa had 2rbi on 2-2 hitting.  Tiamalu, Carda and Hall each had an rbi.  UCLA improved to 13-1; Nevda dropped to 6-8.

LIU 2, Cal Poly 14
WP Innamorato.  LP White.  Just wasn’t the Blackbirds day.  Hours after losing the 10-9 heartbraker to Northwestern, they were run-ruled by Cal Poly. Leading 3-0 after two, Cal Poly scored 8 in the 3rd, and 3 in 4th.Whit wa charged with8 runs, reliever Archer with 6.  Cochiolo had had 4 rbi on 2 hits; Westlund had 3 rbi; Gerhart 2, Brown 1.

Cal 1, Nebraska 0
WP Jolene Henderson.  Emily Lockman.  Nebraska impressed this weekend, playing tough against the #1 and #8 teams, and ace pitchers like Keilani Ricketts of Oklahoma and Jolene Henderson of Cal, the kind of big games pitchers you want in a close game.  Cal scored in the 2nd;  Alvarez led with a double, and scored with one out on Cordes sac fly.  The Huskers had one hit, but Lockman held the Bears to four.  Cal is now 11-2; unranked Nebraska, which surely improved its standing after this weekend, is 11-4.

Oregon 4, UNLV 2
WP Hawkins, 3H.  LP Oliveto.  Rebels scored 2 runs bottom 1st on Monreal’s 2-run double.  Ducks tied top 2nd on Burger’s 2-run single/error.  Howard scored top 3rd on a throwing error.  Peterson drove in final run with triple in 5th.  Oregon improved to 13-3, UNLV now 5-9.


Stanford 3, Florida State 1
WP Stevens  3H, 6K.  LP Perry.  Seminoles scored bottom 1st; Senae drove in East.  Cardinal scored 2 in wnd and one in 7th.  Only one earned run, driven in by Schmidt.

Stanford 2,  Syracuse 1
WP Gerhart 2H, 11K.  LP Taylor..  Stanford, which improved to 14-3, scored bottom 2nd, speedy Winter scoring on Miller’s rbi.  The Orange tied top 5th on Dimon’s solo. Rich immediately countered with a home run in the bottom. Syracuse is 4-4.

Utah tied Cal Poly 1-1 (flights)

Oregon 3,  San Diego State 1
WP Moore.  LP Arbino.  Moore yielded 3 hits with 10 Ks.  Kameni May drove in SDSU’s run.  Howard hit  2-run shot or Oregon.  Takeda also had an rbi.  The Ducks improved to 14-3.

UNLV 2, Long Beach State 10
WP Jones-Wesley.  LP Foti.  ULV runs were driven in by Aleman (HR) and Van Acker.   trailing by one, LBS scored 4 in top 2nd, added one in the 5th,and capped their scoring with 2 in the 6th.  St Germain, who tripled and doubled, scored 3 runs.  Tuppa-Tautai drove in two runs; Kimbrough, Stephan, DeGaetano, Holmes, and Garcia also had rbi.

Nevada 7, UCSB 1
WP Jones.  LP Collins.   Scoreless until the 5th when Nevada scored six runs.  The teams traded runs in the 6th.  Jennings drove in the sole run for UCSB.  For Nevada, Parsons doubled in 2 runs.  Sweet, Jones, Butera and Lastrapes had rbi’s.  Nevada is 7-8.

Long Beach State 7, Syracuse 6
LBSU wins in dramatic fashion.  Trailing 6-3, with 2 outs, bottom 7th, Ashley Jones jacked a grand slam.
