Longballs Lift Irish Over No. 24 North Carolina, 9-3

Notre Dame earns second win over Tar Heels behind three home runs.

 

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Notre Dame tagged No. 24 North Carolina for 12 hits –

including three home runs – during Sunday’s 9-3 rout of the Tar Heels to end the

Carolina Classic at Anderson Stadium. The win helped offset a 9-1 non-conference

softball loss to Minnesota to start the day for the Irish (4-5).

 

Dani Miller and Alexa Maldonado each homered for the fourth time on the season

and Amy Buntin added a dinger as the Irish (4-5) finished the weekend with a 2-2

record.

 

Next up for Notre Dame is a four-game showing at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic

(March 3-4) held at the ESPN Wide World Sports in Buena Vista, Fla.

 

 

 

South Carolina Claims Gamecock Invitational Title;

Garcia MVP, Seniors Evan Childs, Lauren Lackey and Kierstyn White also on all-tournament

team

              

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina (10-3) claimed the Gamecock Invitational title,

going 3-0 on the weekend, led by tournament MVP Samie Garcia.

 

The junior Garcia led the Gamecocks on the weekend, getting hits in all three

games, while she had the big blow with her three-run homer in the 7-4 win over

Appalachian State. Seniors Evan Childs, Lauren Lackey and Kierstyn White all

joined Garcia on the all-tournament team. Elon placed Camille Hill and Erin

O’Shea on the squad, which was rounded out by Appalachian State’s Allie Cashion

and Meghan Smith, Presbyterian’s Jill McLean and George Washington’s Autumn

Taylor.
