Keilani Ricketts no-hitter.  The senior lefthander threw the second no-hitter of her career, with 14 strikeouts, and hit a solo home run in the first inning.  The first five batters of the season reached for the Sooners. After Lauren Chamberlain was hit by the season’s first pitch and Georgia Casey walked, Shults drilled a line-drive home run over the fence in center field. It was the 55th homer of her career, putting her one off the school and Big 12 record.  Ricketts followed with a mammoth shot to right center field and Shelby Pendley, in her first at-bat as a Sooner, launched a towering shot to straight-away center. The power surge continued in the second inning as Chamberlain, who set the Big 12 record a year ago with 30 home runs, sent a liner over the left field wall for her first of the season.

Lauren Cumbess threw nine strong innings, allowing only two runs, while also belting two hits at the plate, including driving in the game-winning RBI,  After senior Alice O’Brien started the top of the ninth on second base due to international tiebreak rules, freshman Nikki Sagermann placed a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance O’Brien to third. Cumbess followed with a single to leftfield to score O’Brien and give UK the lead 3-2. Cumbess had to work out of a jam in the bottom of the ninth to conserve the victory. After LaRisa Jones started the inning on second base, Cumbess got centerfielder Jasmin Mejia to pop up for the first out and then Vanessa Alvarez struck out looking for the second out. Cheyenne Cordes would single through to left field to put runners on the corners, but Cumbess would get Ashley Decker to strike out looking to end the game and give UK the win.  Jolene Henderson took the loss.
