Georgia 8, Penn State 0 (5). Bulldogs maximized their 5 hits, while limiting the Lady Lions to 2. Bottom 1st, Schlopy walked and stole 2nd (a familiar script for this speedster); Wiggins singled, stole 2nd; Schlopy scored on wild pitch; Goler walked, stole 3nd; Wigggins scored Hesson sac fly. 2-0. Akamine got one of 2 hits in top 2nd, but was stranded. Bottom 2nd: Echols singled, trout reached on fielding error; runners advanced on Pauly sac bunt; Schlopy tripled in 2 runs; Schlopy scored on Wiggins sac fly. 5-0. Rossi opened Penn State 3rd with a single, their other hit. Bulldogs reached run-rule margin with 3 runs, bottom 4th. Pauly doubled, Schlopy walked on 4 pitches, Wiggins homered. Dawgs left bases loaded.
Arizona State 13, Campbell 4 (5). Sun Devils took the mystery out of this game, bottom 1st, with 3 runs. Boyd, another dangerous leadoff hitter, doubled, advanced on a passed ball and scored on Rogers single. Parlich singled, runners advanced on passed ball; Donnenwirth rbi single; Lockwood rbi fielder’s choice. Camels took one back on NcGee’s two out solo in 2nd. ASU put 5 scores up in 3rd; with 2 out, Boyd jacked a 3-run homer. Lockwood had a 2-run single. Five more Sun Devils scored bottom 4th. after Stephan jacked a 2-run homer of Bach, 8-3. In bottom Boyd rbi on error at short; ASU loaded bases, lost Haro at home, but Donnenwirth walked, rbi, and 2 runs scored on wild pitch. Lockwood singled in 2 rbi. Elks walked top 5th, scored for Camels on groundout.
Louisville 12, Morehead State 1 (5). The Cardinals gave ample support to Connell’s 3-hitter. Bemis and Ruckenbrod had 4 rbi’s each. Esteban scored on Ruckenbrod single in 1st. Morehead State left bases loaded top 2nd. In bottom, Esteban and Bemis had rbi doubles; Reuckenbroad slammed a 3-run homer. State eked out a run top 3rd; Louisville answered with 3 more. After McMurray relieved Imperial to pitch the 3rd, , Bemis hit a 2-out, 2-run triple; Wolny singled, rbi. Collins relieved Connel to pitch the 4th and struck out the side. Louisville loaded the bases; Roesel fielder’s choice rbi; Keller walked, rbi; and Bemis closed out the scoring with a fielder’s choice rbi.
Texas 4, Houston 1. Houston scored, top 1st, when Anderson led off the game with a solo homer. The Longhorns were held in check until bottom 4th. Hoagland opened with a double, scored on a throwing error. Schmidt drove in 2 runs with a double to right center; Hooks, whom had walked, advanced on the double, scored the final run on a fielding error on Feight’s bunt.
Arizona State 11, Florida Gulf Coast 1. FGCU threatened the Sun Devils potential run-rule margin, by loading bases top 5th, off Escobedo, pitching in relief, with 2 out. Garabedian worked the count to 3-2 before striking out, Escobedo’s third K of the inning. Sun Devils scored 4 in the 1st, three on a bases-loaded double by Donnenwirth, who then scored on Lockwood’s sac fly. Popescue struck out 3 of 4 in the 2nd. ASU unloaded 7 runs in the bottom half. Boyd slugged a 2-run homer; with 2 out, Castillo and Johnson rbi singles; Spiel singled, 2 rbi. Platt homered for the FGCU score, top 3rd.
