Virginia Tech wins two. The Hokies picked up in the second game against FGCU where they left off from game one Weber State as they plated four runs in the first inning. Richelle McGarva and Anderson both singled and then Courtney Liddle launched a three-run home run. Later in the inning, Rose crushed a solo home run to left field to make it 4-0. The Eagles got a run back in the second on a solo home run, but Tech got that run back in the second when Anderson delivered a two-out single down the line to plate Banks. Trailing 5-3, the Eagles threatened in the fifth inning, loading the bases, but Roark snuffed the rally with a strikeout. Tech then plated five runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. With the bases loaded, Froehlich singled to the gap to drive in a run and another scored on an error on the play. Rose then blasted a three-run home run to right-center field to give the Hokies some breathing room.
UCKA 5, Sacramento State 3. Coach Kelly Inouye-Perez won her 200th game. Bottom 1st: DiSalvatore on, FC, advanced on Harrison double; both scored when Fox reached on error. Bottom 2nd: Lindvall hbp Schroeder singled, DiSalvatore singled, rbi. Bruins left two. UCLA nursed its lead until the 5th when Sac State tied3-all. Frye and Nakken singled; Frye scored on Kaufman single; McCormick singled in 2 runs. UCLA quickly regained the lead in the bottom: Yudin singled; pinch runner Murray advanced on 2 passed balls; Hall singled, rbi; Lindvall walked; with two out, Bates singled, rbi.
Kentucky 9, Tennessee 6. Riley won in relief of Chandra Bell, who yielded the first 4 runs to the Vols in the 3rd. Bottom 2nd: UK took lead on O’Brien’s 2 run homer. Vols took 4-2 lead in 3rd, scoring 4 runs on 3 hits including rbi double by Dotson, rbi triple by Gibson. UK tied in bottom; After Cervantes walked, Ivy Renfroe relieved Ellen Renfroe. Aull singled; Cumbess singled rbi; Aull scored tying run on DeMartine groundout. Top 4th: Riley relieved Rowlands. Vols broke tie in 5th on Dotson’s rbi triple. KU stranded two, after losing a runner at home and another runner at 3rd. Bottom 6th: O’Brien opened with her second home run, 5-5. When Riley doubled, Hosfield relieved Ivy Renfroe. Yocke singled. Riley scored go-ahead run on Dill single. Yocke scored on Cervantes single; Dill scored on error in center. Aull singled, rbi. 9-5. Dotson, who had a double and triple, homered with 2 out in 7th.
Oklahoma State 9, Minnesota 0. Cowgirls banged out 12 hits to 4 for the Gophers, who couldn’t score on Espinosa and got 3 of 4 hits off reliever Hawkins. OSU charged out of the gate; in the 1st, Hamilton rbi single, Garcia 3-run dinger. 4-0. OSU scored 2 in 3rd on rbi by Garcia (4) and Boyd, then 3 in top 7th. Brown, Garcia singled; Boyd rbi double; Graham 2-run double.
Mississippi State 9, Florida State 8. Bulldogs score two, bottom 10th, after Seminoles went up 8-7. Seminoles had a 5-run 2nd, Bulldogs a 5-run 7th to tie game at 7-all. In FSU 10th, Bryant singled in pinch runner Austin. Brown singled, but both hitters were stranded. Bottom: Bell the ITB runner on 2nd; Raines hit a bunt single; Cooley reached on fielder’ice, two runs scored on throwing error by the catcher.
Texas A&M 3, Louisiana Tech 1.
Georgia 6, LSU 3. Two of the five Tiger hits off Owen were homers, but they were not enough to offset the 4-0 lead the Bulldogs built on Goler’s grand slam in the 3rd. LSU chipped away with a run in the 5th; Houston doubled, pinch runner Pizer scored on Santos sac bunt/error. Georgia widened the margin in the 6th,, rbi single by Wiggins, rbi double by Goler, her fifth of the game. Top 7th: Houston and Santos each hit a 2-2 pitch from Owen for home runs. Murphy finished the game for Georgia.
Florida 6, Robert Morris 1. Gators found offensive traction bottom 4th, after Brombacher struck out the side. Bruder led with a double; Schutte singled; Bush rbi single; Horton jacked 3-run homer. Gators added 2 in 6th. Dubovec tallied a home run top 7th.
Florida 9, Connecticut 0 (5). Hannah Rogers is now 10-0.
Alabama 3, North Carolina 0. Very methoidcal win. UNC’s Wheeler opened the game with a single, the last and only Tar Heel hit. Bottom 2nd: Locke led off with a solo shot. 3rd: Braud walked; Larsen singled; Traina walked; Braud scored on Boccia sac fly. Tide left bases loaded. After Dunne struck out side in 5th, Larsen led off with a home run. UNC could not take advantage of three errors by Crimson Tide.
Baylor 6, Arizona 0. The Bears racked 3 homers off Fowler, backing a super effort by Canion, who led off the 2nd with a solo shot. Holl walked, Redfearn singled, Freeland rbi groundout, Shelton rbi single, 3-0. Top 5th: with 2 out, Hosack went deep for 2 runs; Redfearn followed with a solo HR. 6-0. Schutzler had the lone hit off Canion, leading off the 4th.
UCLA 3, Long Beach State 0. LBSU led 3-1 after the 1st, but UCLA loaded up and outhit LBSU 13-2. Schroeder led the game with a home run. In the bottom, Stephan was hbp; Denio walked; DeBaun hit a sac bunt, Stephan scored on the error at 3rd. Two out, Schallig rbi single. DeBaun scored on a passed ball, 3 runs, 1 hit. Two out in the 2nd, Schroeder singled,Bates singled, Schroeder scored on DiSalvatore single. The Bruins took the lead in the 4th. Schroeder tied the game with her second, leadoff home run. Bates and DiSalvatore singled, Bates scoring the go-ahead run on Fox’ sac fly. Turner relieved; the Bruins scored two more. Harrison closed out the scoring with a leadoff home run in the 6th.
Washington 10, South Carolina-Upstate 2. USC Upstate is very formidable when strikeout artist Morgan Childers pitches but Alexander was no match for the undefeated Huskies. After Pohlman scored on a Wright single in the 1st, USC took a 2-1 lead on 3 hits in the 3rd. UW responded with 7. After UW loaded the bases, Jones relieved starter Ingelsby. Jones brought in the tying run with a sac fly; Pohlman stroked a 3-run single; Salling reached on an error, 2 runs scoring; Fa’asua doubled in 2 runs. 8-2. The Huskies reached the run-rule with two scores in the 6th.
Auburn 5, Arkansas 1. The Tigers took control with a 4-run 2nd. Stangl rbi single; Estell 3-run bases-clearing double.
Arizona State 13, Howard 1 (5). No surprise; ASU outhit the school from DC 11-4. No surprise; the Sun Devils scored 6 runs in the 1st, including a grand slam by Johnson, and 5 in the 2nd,a final 2 in the 4th. Trailing 6-0, Howard scored bottom 1st; Robinson singled, scored on Kirschner single..
