Late Tuesday: Texas 4, Hawaii 0HONOLULU – Junior right-hander Blaire Luna struck out a season-high 16 batters Tuesday as the No. 6 Texas Longhorns handed the host No. 18 Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine its first loss of the season with the 4-0 shutout. Karina Scott had a home run and season-high three RBI as the Longhorns improved to 20-1, making it the second-best start in the history of Texas Softball. Hawai’i had opened the season with a school-record 21 straight victories before tonight’s win by the Longhorns.  Luna allowed just two hits against five walks to stay perfect at 9-0 this season. She got into trouble in the UH second inning after Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu singled to load the bases with one away. Luna came back to strike out Dara Pagadun and got All-American Kelly Majam to pop up to short, ending the threat.  Stephanie Ricketts (12-1) retired 10 straight Longhorns until the fifth when she allowed a walk to Mandy Ogle. Scott then battled Ricketts in an eight-pitch at-bat until she launched a two-run homer to right center. It was Scott’s third home run in the last four games. The Longhorns later added two insurance runs in the seventh as Luna would record two more strikeouts to close out the win.

South Florida def  Canisius 1-0 . Pitchers Sam Greiner and Sara Nevins combined to toss the Bulls’ fifth consecutive shutout Wednesday night, edging USF (20-4 overall) past Canisius 1-0 for the team’s 20th win of the season. Greiner and Nevins combined to strike out 10 Golden Griffins, and scattered a combined five hits in a game that was scoreless until the fifth inning.  Greiner left after four-plus innings of work, giving up just four hits and striking out four. Nevins collected the final nine outs, striking out six to grab her tenth win of the season.  The Bulls put runners on in three of the first four innings, but couldn’t bring one home until the fifth.  Janine Richardson’s sharp grounder with two outs ate up Katie Lancellotti at shortstop, allowing Kourtney Salvarola to cross home with the only run of the game. None of the Bulls’ other 12 baserunners would score, as USF hit the ball sharply, but right at the defense all evening.

Baylor 2, North Texas 1.  Hollsingled, scored with 2 out on Walker single.Courtney Repka pitched 9+ innings of shutout ball.

Georgia Tech 2, Georgia 0.  WP Hope Rush; LP Morgan Montgemayor.  Tech scored both runs bottom 6th: C Thomas and A Thomas.  Rush yielded 2 hits.
