GAME NOTES
Spring Fling, Honolulu: late report:  Cal 6, Texas 3.  Jolene Henderson got the save as she pulled the #1 Bears out of a bases-loaded jam in the 7th.The loss snapped the Horns’ season high 12-game winning streak. After singles by Hoagland, Washington and Bennett loaded the bases, Henderson struck out Craig and Thom, Taylor grounded out to end the game.  Cal knocked out Texas ace Blair Luna, who suffered her first loss of the season, giving up six runs on seven hits in 3 innings.  Valerie Arioto, who im,proved to 10-0, slugged a 2-run hmomer in the 1st.  Echavarria hit a 2-run single in the Cal 2nd.  Two errors by Kostreba helped the Horns score two bottom 2nd.  Vonk’s 2-run single in the 4th ended Luna’s day.

Washington 7, Notre Dame 2.  Bottom 3rd: Pinch runner Creger-Zier scored on a double by Pohlman.  The Huskies took charge in the 4th and knockef Irish starter Lauren Winters from the circle on 3 runs – a solo shot by Lahners, her ninth of the year, and a 2-run blasW added two more bottom 5th on a double by Ingelsby off Irish reliever Brittany O’Donnell..  The Irish rebounded, scoring 2 unearned runs.  Kasey Stanchek started for UW and thwarted the Irish with timely strikeouts.

Hawaii 3, California 1  (10). Late Thursday. First loss for the Bears.  WP Stephanie Ricketts; LP Jolene Henderson.  Jessica Iwata hit a 2-run walkoff home run in the 10th.  Score was tied 0-0 through nine innings.  Cal stranded 17 runners.  In the 10th, under ITB, Jace Williams advanced on a sac by Elia Reid; Henderson’s slow roller was misplayed, and Reid scored.  Kayla Wartner was on 2nd, ITB, Sarah Robinson singled.  Wartner scored, diving on the plate.  Iwata then broke Cal’s 23-game win streak with a 2-run blast to left field, her fifth.Morgan Long’s rbi.

.Louisiana Lafayette 5, Penn State 1.  In the #rd, the Cajuns scored three>  Myers rbi; Orgeron smacked a 2-run double.  Penn State scored bottom 5th on rbi by Morgan Long.  ULL then added 2 runs in the 6th.  Ashley Brignac seems recovered from a shoulder injury; she was clocked in the 60’s with good movement.

Washington 9, DePaul 1.  The Huskies overwhelmed the Blue Demons, 10 hits to 4.  UW scored single runs in the 1st and 2nd, then 3 runs in the 3rd and 4 runs in the 4th.  Kylie Lahners jacked a 3-run homer in the 3rd.  Kaitlin Inglesby pitched the shutout.

Arizona State 4, Fresno State 0.  Another good outing for winning pitcher Hillary Bach.  Like the game against ULL (and many others) the Sun Devil rally began with Katelyn Boyd, scoring the first run in the 6th.  With 2 on, Caporuscio walked, loading the bases against Mackenzie Oakes.  Freeman beat out an infield hit, 2-0.  Afusia drove in 2 runs.

Oklahoma 9, Virginia 1.  Home runs by Sooners Casey (3 runs) and Shults (solo) headlined the OU win.  Oklahoma had a 7-0 lead in the 5th with runners on, but no run-rule.  Michelle Gascoigne had a shutout until the 6th when UVA scored.  The Sooners added 2 runs for the final margin.

 Louisiana Lafayette 9, Fresno State 1.(5).  Jordan Wallace, reprising her strong showing against ASU, limited the Bulldogs to 2 hits.  The Cajuns scored 5 runs in the 2nd, fueled by a grand slam hit by Nerissa Myers, who had a homer agsainst ASU.Although tshe Bulldogs got a run back in the 4th, the Cajuns  answered with 3 in the 4th and another in the 5th for the run-rule. Kiley Shae Aldridge took the loss.

Florida 9, South Carolina 1 (5).  Gators scored 6 runs in the 2nd.  Castro jacked a 3-run homer, scoring Coyle (single) and Horton (walk).  Florida loaded the bases, and Haeger belted a 2-out, 3-run double.  The gators added a run, then closed out the scoring ikn the5th on consecutive rbi singles by Kasey Fagan and Moultrie,  Hannah Rogers was the winning pitcher.

Arizona State 1, Michigan 0.  Tightly competed game; Dallas Escobedo yielded 4 hits, Hayley Wagner 2.  As she has so many times, ASU shortstop provided the spark, driving a home run bottom of the 6th.  Chidester came with inches of tying the score, belting a deep ball which ASU center fielder Caporuscio caught with a dramatic grab at the top of the fence, one of the pivotal plays of the tournament.  With 2 out, Lane singled but a flyout ended the game..

Arizona 8, UC Davis 0 (6).  Shelby Babcock pitched the shutout.

Oklahoma 6, Penn State 1.  The Lady Lions threw a scare into the powerful Sooners.  Shults led off top 2nd with a homer.  But, Johnson homered in the 4th for PSU.  Out came OU starter Kirsten Allen; in came ace Keilani Ricketts.  Top 6th: Norris slammed a 2-run homer.  Top 7th: Shults again led with a homer; Ricketts walked; Casey jacked a 2-run homer.

Baylor def Liberty 2-1.  WP Courtney Repka led Baylor to its seventh straight win.  Strickland and Repka drove in Baylor’s runs.  West drove in the Liberty score.

Tennessee 8, Arkansas 0 (5).  Ellen Renfroe 2-hitter.  Shipman and Burchell had 2 rbi each.

Auburn def Georgia 2-0.  Jenee Loree 1-hitter.  LP Erin Arevalo.  Jordan and Harrison rbi’s.

Alabama 12, Mississippi 2.  The Tide gave winning pitcher Jackie Traina a solid cushion – scoring 12 runs in the first two innings.

Missouri 7, Kansas 0.  The Tigers outhit the Jayhawks 9 to 1.  Chelsea Thomas had a 1-hitter, until relieved late by Kristen Nottlemann.  Kelsi Jones blasted a 3-run homer.  Corrin Genovese had a 2-run double in the Tigers 5-run 2nd.  Marston, Hudson and Muller also had rbi.

 Arizona 6, Iowa 1.  Kenzi Fowler vs Chelsea Lyon.  Wildcats scored in 1st; Suitos singled; scored on catcher error.  Top 3rd: Wilson walked; Suitos hit a single down the left field line; Del Ponte reached on an error at 2nd; Wilson scored but Suitos was out at 3rd.  Bottom 4th: Blank walked; Akers singled; Keim sacrificed; Blank scored on a groundout to short.  Top 5th: Buchanan singled; Wilson reached on a fielder’s choice. One out, Del Ponte reached on an error, Buchanan scored.  Top 6th: Goodacre doubled; pinch runner Davis advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch; Buchanan walked; Davis scored on a wild pitch; Wilson singled, rbi, Buchanan scored.  5-1.  Top 7th: Koria jacked a shot over the center field fence.  6-1. Two out,  Goodacre walked.  Ariola fanned.  Bottom 7th: Hawkeyes down in order.

LSU 10, Mississippi State 7,  The Tigers racked an 8-run 3rd inning, including a go-ahead 2-run single by Dylan Supak to down the Bulldogs.  The teams are playing a three-game SEC series at Tiger Park.LSU has an 18-game winning streak against MSU.  Rachele Fico worked 6+ innings, yielding 8 hits but just 2 earned runs, while improving to 8-4.  Kylie Vry gave up 7 runs in her 2 innings.

Texas def Winthrop 9-2.  Taylor Hoagland hit 2 homer for the first time in her career.  The Longhorns finished the Spring Fling with a 4-1 record, and are now 23-2.Rachel Fox improved to 7-0, allowing2 runs on 9 hits, with 9 Ks.

Patty Gasso hit a major coaching milestone as she hit the 1,000 career wins mark — as the Sooners defeated Virginia and Penn State, which extended a 15-game winning streak.  With the 2 wins, Gasso’s career record is 841-272-2 at Oklahoma and 1001-333-3.
