Alabama 9, Tennessee 5. Twelve of the 14 combined runs were scored in the 6th and 7th. The Tide led 5-0 after scoring 3 top 6th. Two hits, 2 walks, produced the scores. Ivy Renfroe relieved Hosfield in the 4th; Hosfield would return in the 7th. The Vols scored 2 in bottom 6th, on Burchell’s 2-out homer. Conley, Dawson, Fenton and Braud recorded rbi’s in the Bama 7th. Vols 7th: Andrews walked, Hammond singled, Chavanne bunted, loading the bases; Dotson was hbp, rbi; Traina relieved Dunne; with two out, Gibson singled, 2 rbi.
Washington 8, CSU Bakersfield 0 (6). Williams homered in the UW 1st. Wright jacked a 2-run homer in the 2nd. Hayward rbi single, 4th. Fa’asua and Stuart, rbi singled in 5th. Ingelsby doubled in 2 runs in 6th.
Washington 9, CSU Bakersfield 0 (5). Salling and Williams singled in runs, top 1st. In 4th, Pohlman had an rbi single; Hayward scored on a passed ball; Williams stroked 3-run homer.
Georgia Tech 12, Winthrop 2. Down 8-0 in 6th, facing run-rule, Withrop scored 2. Tech took the lead in 2nd on a 2-run single by Rush. Weseman and Priebe doubled the lead with rbi in the 4th. Sinclair opened the Tech 5th with a solo shot. The 3 runs in the 6th were a solo by Rudnik and a 2-run blast by Sinclair. In the bottom, Jackson singled in 2 runs for Winthrop. Top 7th: Tech notched 4, one on a QWeseman single, three on Priebe’s home run.
Stanford 4, UC-Davis 3. The Cardinal staged a late rally to defeat unranked UC Davis, which umped on Stanford for 3 runs, top 1st. Zimmerman brought home the last 2 on a single. Van Zandt homered for Stanford, bottom 2nd, but UC Davis held off the Cardinal until bottom 7th. With Hansen on via a fielder’s choice; Rich and Miller singled, loading the bases. Prong cleared the bases with a 3-run double.
Tennessee 4, Alabama 1. The Vols upset the Crimson Tide on the same day both national polls made Bama #1. Only the second loss of the season for the Tide. Renfroe limited the Bama offense to 2 hits. In the Vols 4th, Dotson singled, but the next two batters went down. Spigner walked; Shipman singled, rbi. Brown reached on an error, Shipman scored. Top 5th: Conley scored for Bama on Hunt’s ground out. Vols 6th: Dotson singled; was advanced by Burchell; Gibson singled, rbi, and advanced on a wild pitch. Spigner singled, rbi. Locke and Dawson walked i the Bama 7th but the runners were stranded on 2nd and 3rd.
Georgia Tech 10, Winthrop 4. Tech’s hitting advantage was only 10-7 and trailed 4-0 after 4 innings, but the Jackets made more of their oppotunities and amassed 6 runs in the 5th and 4 in the 7th. Eberlink scored the first of 4 runs off Rush in the 2nd. Champman singled, scored in the Winthrop 3rd. Chapman drove in both Winthrop runs in the 4th. Anderson relievced Rush. The scenario changed sharply in the 5th. After Tech scored twice, Priebe launched a grand slam, 6-4 Tech. Winthrop stranded two. Tech 7th: Bear homered. Rudnik rbi. Rush slugged a 2-run homer. Adkins relieved Anderson to pitch the bottom 7th. Winthrop went down in order.
