The Irish scored 3, bottom 1st: Maldonado doubled, Clay singled, Johnson rbi single; Miller singled, bases loaded, Fleury singled, rbi; Engelkens relieved Stillson; Buntin fielder’s choice, Johnson out at home; Marrone singled, rbi. Pinch runner Thornton scored on Jorgensborg single in 3rd. Johnson and Clay scored in 4th on Fleury double. Saganowich scored an unearned run in 5th; after Marrone singled in 6th, Wright scored the run-rule scored on a fielding error at 2nd.
Kentucky 9, Marshall 4. Freshman Ellen Weaver hits first career homer in 3-run Wildcat 7th.
Missouri 7, Northern Iowa 2. Tigers racked 13 hits, holding UNI to 4. Lee and Hudson each hit a3-run home run.
Florida 8, Florida International 0 (6). With Rogers stifling FIU batters, the Gators scored 8 runs on 7 hits. Bottom 1st: Moultrie singled, stole 2nd; one out, Bruder walked, went to 3rd on error at 2nd; Moultrie scored. FIU had 2 on in 2nd, Burrl walked, Slowik singled, but Rogers fanned next 2 batters. DeFelice openeed Gator 2nd with a solo shot. After Bush led Gator 4th with a single, Gniadek relieved Dawson. DeFDelice and Coyle walked, loiading the bases. Horton rbi single; Fagan fileder’s choice, DeFelice out at home. With 2 out, Paculba hit a 3-run double. Florida hit the run-rule button in the 6th; Coyle singled; Holle homered. Florida 34-7. FIU 23-21.
Michigan 3, Central Michigan 0. UM 2nd: Ryan scored on Evans single. Wolverines left bases loaded. CMU 3rd: Jordam fammed three but Horan singled for team’s only hit off Jordan. UM 6th: Blanchard singled; Ryan homered. Michigan 37-3. CMU 20-13.
Tennessee 7, Appalachian State 0. Co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly picked up their 500th win. Appalachian State left runners 1st and 2nd. Vols scored bottom 2nd; Burchell led off with homer. Tenfroe struck out side in 4th; in bottom, Vols scored four. Burchell reached on error; Lewid pinch runner; Davin singled, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on catcher throwing error while Lewis scored; one out, Davin scored on another error by catcher; Hammond walked; two out, Grieve doubled, rbi. Dobson doubled, rbi; Gibson relieved Wainright; in 6th, Hammond and Andrews scored on Dotson triple. Tennessee 35-6. Appalachian State 15-18. Note Saturday’s LSU vs Tennessee will be on ESPN 2 at 11am.
Texas A&M 4, Sam Houston State 1. Sam Houston State scored its run, bottom 1st; Wiginton led with a single, advanced on wild pitch; Benavidez walked; Survan reached on fielder’s choice, but Wiginton was out at home; two out, Tucker singled, Benavidez scored. TAMU answered with 3 runs top 2nd; two out, Orsak reached on error; Albus singled, Walker reached on error, loading bases; Villareal 2-run single. Dumezich homered to open Aggie 3rd. Texas A&M is 31-11. Sam Houston State is 15-25.
Oklahoma 5, Oklahoma State 1. Typical Bedlam. Sooners racked 3 homers. Ricketts struck out the side top 1st. Cowgirls streanded 2 top 2nd; Sooners scored 2 runs in bottom. Williams walked with one out; Ricketts jacked a 2-run homer. Sooners doubled their lead in 4th: Nix walked, Williams homered. Odom relieved Espinosa. With 2 out in 5th, Shults homered (19th). In OSU 6th, Gearhart walked, Morrison singled, Gearhart scored on Garcia groundout. Sooners are 33-11/6-3. Oklahoma State is 32-10/3-4.
Stephen F. Austin 1, Texas 0. SFA snapped the Longhorns18-game winning streak and 17-game home winning streak. SFA scored top 1st; Arana walked; Luetge singled; both advanced on sac bunt by Price; Brown reached on fielder’s choice; loaded; Hallmark struck out; Liles drew rbi walk; SFA left bases loaded. Hoagland tripled in bottom half; stranded. SFA left 2 more in 2nd; Texas left 2 on in 4th. Blaire Luna relieved to pitch the 5th, strikikng out two. Two more Horns were stranded in the 6th. Luna struck out the side in the 7th, but Texas again stranded two runners. Texas 34-4. SFA 10-28. All four of the Longhorns’ defeats have been by one run.
Georgia 10, Georgia Tech 8. Both teams rolled out their heavy artillery: 7 home runs. Bulldogs trailed 7-5 after 5, but scored 5 runs top 6th for 10-7 lead. Bottom 1st: Leading off for Tech, Thomas singled; Weseman slugged 2-run homer to right center. One out; Kuzma homered. Owen relieved Arevalo. Rudnik greeted Owen with a homer. 4-0 Tech. Georgia responded; Pauly and Sandberg scored on a 3-run shot by Schlopy. Georgia tied top 4th on Pauly’s homer. Tech took lead back with 2 runs in bottom, Jones and Jordan scoring on Weseman’s single. 6-4. Adkins relieved Anderson. Dawgs narrowed gap in 5th Wiggins tripled, scored on Sandberg’s groundout. Rush scored on Jordan single, bottom 5th. Bulldogs 6th: Olney doubled; one out, Schlopy rbi single; Goler and Hesson walked, loading bases; Razey jacked a grand slam. Two out in Tech 7th: Jordan homered. Tech had 12 hits, Georgia 9. Georgia 36-6; Tech 34-8.
Kansas 9, Texas Tech 5. Jayhawks score 7 runs in 6th; 2 run double by Vickers; 2-run homer by Hile; solo by Kocon.
LSU 4, McNeese State 2 (9). The Tigers won their 11th straight but it was an unexpectedly close call at the end. In the Tiger 4th, Wray led with a single; Houston was hbp; the runners executed a double steal, and pinch runner Boulet scored on Russell’s ground out. In the bottom, a rope throw from Langoni nailed a State runner at home. Heyward walked and scored, top 7th. But, McNeese belted 2 homers off Fico — Guidry and Divittorio — to force extra innings. In the LSU 9th, national player of the week Anissa Young, whose late-inning heroics fueled the Tigers sweep of Alabama, racked a 2-out, 2-run single, Blades and Heyward scoring to put LSU up again. However, Fico issued 3 walks with one out; a strikrout and groundout ended the threat. LSU 26-12. McNeese 22-22.
California 9, Saint Mary’s 1 (5). The Bears, who outhit St Mary’s 12-5, scored 5 runs bottom 1st. Three walks loaded the bases; Solari relieved Lemmon. Jones singled in 2 runs; Decker singled rbi; Decker stole 2nd and Jones tole home. Ziegenhirt singled rbi, 5-0. St Mary’s stranded 2 in the 1st and 2 more in the 2nd. Cal Williams and Echevarris=a drove in runs in the 2nd. Cal reached a potential run-rule with an eighth runin the 4th, Vonk tripled and scored on Leider’s single. But, St Msry’s scored top 5th; Sabatini and Smith doubled. Bottom 5th: Decker scored on Robben’s single. Cal 25-8. St Mary’s 5-17.
