Virginia 8, Virginia Tech 2. Tech scored top 1st — Ward on Liddle double — and top 7th -Wolff scored on Ward triple — but the middle innings belonged to the Cavaliers. Bottom 2nd: one out, Skinkis doubled, scored tying run on Javaras single. UVA 3rd: one out, Pittman singled, Erica Cippoloni reached on fielder’s choice; Harris singled, rbi. Roark relieved Harrell. Skinkis reached on a sac bunt, rbi. Bowdren opened the Cav’s 4th with a solo. Williams singled, Pittman singled, Williams scored on Erica Cippoloni’s single. Harris and Skinkis walked; Hawkims struck out, UVA left bases loaded. Williams scored in 5th on G Cippoloni single. Cavaliers scored 2 more in 6th after Ward relieved Roark; E Cippolni walked, Harris singled, Skinkis doubled in both runs. Virginia is now 20-22/3-9. Virginia Tech 30-12/7-6.
Tennessee 6, Louisiana State 0. Ellen Renfroe threw a 3-hitter with 12 Ks to break the Tigers 11-game winning streak. Brottany Mack also notched 12 Ks in defeat but gave up 6 hits and a homer. Scoreless until top 4th when Vols scored 4 runs with 2 out. Burchell was on by error, Spigner drew a 2-out walk, Davin hbp to load the bases; Shipman jacked a massive grand slam. In Vols 4th, Chavanne and Grieve singled; both advanced on a wild pitch; Burchell singled in both runs. Tennessee is 36-6/13-4. LSU is 26-13/8-7.
Georgia 7, Ole Miss 3. Bulldogs stsaved off Rebel rally. Bottom 1st: Wiggins walked, stole 2nd; Paul hbp; one out, Hesson singled, rbi. Raxey rbi sac fly. Top 3rd: 2 out, Overbeck reached on an error at 3rd, and Ladner put Ole Miss on the board with a 2-run homer. Georgia immediately broke the tie in the bottom on Hesson’s 2-out homer. One out, Georgia 5th: Hesson walked, Razey homered. After Sandberg singled, Torres relieved Bruning. Hubbard walked. Trout rbi sac fly. Echols rbi single. 7-2. Ole Miss scored a final run, top 7th; bases loaded, one out, Wall singled, Bruning HBp, Broome and Overbeck singled (rbi). But Ladner looked at a third strike, and the Rebels left the bases loaded. Georgia 37-6/12-5.iss 14-31/3-15.
California 5. Oregon 0. Jolene Henderson, having a very strong season, improved to 24-5, yielding jusst 4 hits while striking out 7. The Ducks loaded the bases, top 1st, on 2 sinkgles and an error, but Henderson caught Nieto looking. J Reid singled in the bo9ttom for Cal; the speedster stole 2nd and reached 3rd on a wild pitch; Vonk walked; Williams singled, rbi; with 2 out, Vonk scored on Decker’s groundout. Cal 4th: Ziegenhirt led with a homer. Robben and Jones singled, Rumfelt relieved Moore. With two out, Williams reached on an error, rbi. Echevarria closed out the scoring with an rbi single. Cal 26-8. Oregon 30-9.
Fresno State 4, San Jose State 2. Another very good gsame by Moses but SJSU stayed on the Bulldogs heels. Bottom 2nd: Stiglich opened with a single, Ortega doubled, rbi. Angene singled; Pollard singled, Ortega scored. Pollard forced at 2nd by Hall; Ortiz walked; the Bulldogs left bases loaded. Schatz hit a solo HR top 4th for the Beaver first score. Fresno 5th: Stiglich doubled with one out; Ortega singled; Fox in to pitch; Angene walked. Tewo Bulldog runs scored on a catcher error and wild pitch. OSU opened the 6th with a solo shot by Garcia.
UCLA 4, Arizona State 1. All of the Bruin runs were plated top 1st on a grand slam by Kelli Fox, one of the most impressive freshmen. Schroeder led off the game with a walk; DiSalvatore singled; but Tiumalu and Harrison struck out; Yudin kept the at-bat alive with a walk; loading the bases for Fox who jacked a 3-2 pitch. Two of the 4 hits off Escobedo were in that first inning, and UCLA would nothave another base runner until the 6th.. ASU stranded 2 in the bottom 1st; and went down in order until Castillo walked leading off the ASU 5th. Top 6th: UCLA left two; ASU stranded one. Bottom 7th: Castillo hit a one-out homer. Johnson walked, and Macon relieved Kerr, and UCLA retired the last 2 batters. ASU 37-5/3-4. UCLA 29-7/5-2.
Washington 3, Arizona 0. Basically even in hitting, Huskies 6, Wildcats 8, but UofA was denied the plate. Top 1st, Pohlman scored on Salling 2-out single. Top 2nd: Stuart singled; Wright popped to 3rd; Jones walked; Wagner bunted to 1st; Stuart scored on error by 3rd. Arizona stranded 2 in bottom (singles by Koria, Buchanan). Wildcats stranded 2 more in 3rd, singles by Schutzler, Del Ponte. Inglesby opened the UW 4th with a homer. Huskies loaded bases in 5th; with 2 out; Hayward, Pohlman singled, Salling walked but Ingelsby looked at a third strike. Arizona stranded 3 more in bottom. Lastrapes singled in the 7th, stranded. Washington 30-4/5-2. Arizona 34-8/5-2.
Stanford 7, Oregon State 0. Bottom 1st: Hassman walked, Hanewich doubled, Hassman scored on Miller out. Two walks and Becerra’s single loaded the bases in the Cardinal 2nd; Hassman hit into a fielder’s choice, Prong scored. Stanford left 2. Hansen homered to lead the Stanford 3rd; Miller singled, Rich doubled, rbi; Prong walked; Demore relieved Andreanna. Two wild pitches put runners on 3nd and 3rd; Prong scored on Koutz single. 5-0. Hassman scored on an error at short in the 4th. Rich scored the final Cardinal run in the 6th ona single by Koutz. Stanford 28-8/3-4. Oregon State 18-14/1-6.
