Bottom: Vonk singled with one out; Williams singled, Vonk to 3rd; Echevarria reached on fielder’s choice, rbi. Stanfordf stranded 2 in 2nd and 2 in 5th, then loaded bases top 7th, no score. Cal stranded 1 in 3rd, two in 4th, 1 in 6th, then loaded bases bottom 7th, one out. But, Echevarria lined out to Gerhart and Reid was doubled off 3rd. Stanford 31-9. Cal 29-9
Nebraska 3, Missouri 2. The Huskers got one hit off Thomas — but that hit drove in 3 runs. The Tigers had led 2-0 after four – Hudson doubled and scored top 2nd; Taylor drove in a run with 2 outs in the 4th. Bottom 5th: Tat Edwards doubled, Foland walked; Banda walked, loading the bases; Drake hbp, rbi; Haget drew an rbi walk; Tay Edwards sac fly, rbi. Missouri had 2 on, one out in 7th, no score. Nebraska 32-8. Missouri 37-6.
Texas A&M 3, Oklahoma 0. The Sooners are ranked 15th by ESPN but, with this loss to the Aggies, are only breaking even in the Big 12. Dumezich saddled OU with just 3 hits. TAMU, which left 2 on in the 1st. scored twice in the 3rd. With one out, Villareal reached on an error at 3rd; with 2 out, Kliesing singled; May doubled in both runners. OU was positioned to score inthe 4th; two on, one out; but Williams looked at a third strike; Ricketts singled, but pinch runner Hughes was thrown out at home 8-2.The Aggies had 2 on, one out, in the 5th, on a single and another error (OU had 3), but a flyout and a K ended that threat. In the Aggie 6th, Garza led with a double, and scored on Spittler’s one-out single. Gascoigne relieved Ricketts. The Sooners rallied bottom 7th; Nix led with a single, Williams walked, but Ricketts struck out, Dobbs and Norris flied out. OU 33-14/6-6. Texas A&M 34-12/6-4.
Texas 15, Texas Tech 2 (5). The Horns racked 7 homers. Top 1st: a harbinger of things to come. Hoafland led with a walk; one out, Thom slugged a 2-run homer; Hooks followed with a solo. Brokeshoulder relieved Dennis. Tech took one back in the bottom; Bledoe doubled, advanced on a passed ball, scored on Hall’s single. Texas 2nd: Craig singled but was out stealing; Bruins and Feight singled, Hoagland jacked a 3-run homer. Hooks opened the 3rd with a solo. Schmidt singled with one out; Craig hit a 2-run dinger. 9-1. Texas added a run in the 4th; Thom and Hooks singled; Thom forced at 3rd; Schmidt singled, rbi. Savony and Taylor homered in a 5-run 5th. Texas 40-4/10-0. Texas Tech 39-10/4-9.
Oklahoma State 4, Baylor 2. Bottom 2nd; Freeland walked, scored on Shelton single. Cowgirls took 2-1 lead in 4th. Morrison singled, Hamilton doubled, rbi. After sac bunt, Ward singled, rbi. IN OSU 5th, Gearhart singled with one out; Morrison reached on error; with 2 out, Garcia singled in both runners. Baylor 7th: Shelton led with double; two out, Leal singled, rbi. Oklahoma State 35-11. Baylor 35-9.
UCLA 5, Washington 2. Another line-up shuffle to get Fox’s productive bat higher in the lineup. Bottom 1st: Schroeder led with a double, to 3rd on Fox fly; two out, Harrison homered. Huskies loaded bases, one out, in 2nd, no score, strikeout and groundout. Tiumalu homered with 2 out in Bruin 3rd. UW left 2 more in 4th and one in 5th after Kerr relieved Hall. Huskies loaded bases again in 6th on singles by Ingelsby, Wright and Wagner with one out; again no score and 3 left. UCLA expanded its lead in bottom; Snow reached on an error an d Bates homered. UCLA 31-9/7-4. Washington 30-8/5-6.
Oregon 7, Oregon State 4. Not as close as the score suggests; Ducks led 7-1 after six; Beavers scored 3 top 7th. Ducks loaded bases bottom 2nd on singles by Fulava, Cuico and Chambers. Peterson reached on fielder’s choice, rbi; Burger walked, rbi; Ceo walked, rbi; Hall relieved; Pappas singled, rbi, 4-0. Ceo belted 2-run homer in Ducks’ 4th. Vitek homered in Oregon 5th. Beavers 7th: Richardson walked, Sanchez singled, one out, Richardson scored on Brenner groundout; Guzy doubled, rbi; with bases loaded, Guzy scored on catcher throwing error. Oregon 32-11. Oregon State 18-18.
Arizona State 13, Arizona 10. Stunning comeback by ASU. Wildcats led 10-4 after five innings, thanks to a 9-run 2nd. But, Sun Devils scored 3 top 6th, then 6 in the 7th, propelled by Castillo’s grand slam. ASU’s Boyd opened the game with a solo HR. Bottom 2nd: Wildcats hammered starter Popesue for 9 runs. Chambers led with a walk; Arriola homered. Koria singled, Lavine doubled. One out, Schutzler singled, rbi. Buchanan singled; Lstrapes singled, rbi. Bach relieved Popescue. Del Ponte smacked 2-run double. Two out, Arriola singled in 2 runs (4 for the at-bat). Sun Devils stranded 2 in 3rd; Wildcats 1. ASU racked 2 in 4th; Lockwood led with a home run; Urfer walked, scored on Haro single. Two out in ASU 5th, Urfer hit rbi single. Koria led UofA 5th with solo shot. Bryan tripled but was stranded, but Arizona led 10-4. Top 6th: Sun Devils loaded bases with one out; Donnenwirth doubled in 2 runs; Castillo scored on Lockwood groundout. 10-7. The large Wildcat lead was smaller, and endangered. Top 7th: Urfer reached on an error at short. Zambrana singled. Haro singled, loading the bases, no outs. Boyd walked, rbi. Rogers singled, rbi. 10-9. Castillo belted a grand slam, 13-10. Kirker relieved Babcock. Parlich knocked a double before ASU was retired. Dallas Escobedo relieved Bach to pitch bottom 7th; Lavine drew a 2-out walk, Bryan struck out to end the game.
