Washington Fends off Michigan For No.1 Ranking
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Washington (37-5), with 12 first-place votes, edged out Michigan by 7 points to maintain their spot as the No.1 team in the Nation according to the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll announced today by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America. Michigan remains the No. 2 team in the country for the third-consecutive week with eight first-place votes.
The top five teams remain in the top five with No. 4 Alabama (39-9) moving ahead of No. 5 Florida (35-7) after sweeping Arkansas in three games. No. 10 Oklahoma (36-10) advanced three spots from last week’s poll after a 5-0 weekend, including sweeps of Baylor and Nebraska, while No. 11 Oklahoma State (40-11) fell three spots after suffering a 2-3 weekend including being swept by Texas Tech, a team that received votes this week.
For the first time all season, the Top 25 teams remain the same from last week. Five conferences are recognized in the Top 10 with the Pac-10 Conference leading the way with four schools and the SEC close behind with three teams. Both conferences have two schools a piece in the Top 5 as well.
