Notre Dame 1, South Florida 0. Freshman Laura Winter hurled her first no-hitter kto break the Bulls’ five-game winning streak. Winter notched the first Irish no-hitter since Jody Valdivia in 2010, and the first by a freshman since Kristin Schmidt in 2001. Winter beaned the first USF batter but retired 19 straight – recording the first no-no against USF since Stephanie Brombacher pulled the string in March 2010. Nevins, who was 7-0 Big East, also pitched a strong game. Nevins fanned the side in the 1st, retired 3 in the 2nd, and six straight over the next 2 innings. Nevins had a no-hitter until the 5th; Pitzenberger reached on a one-out bunt; pinch-runner Torres scored on Marrone’s 2-out double.
Notre Dame 5, South Florida 0. O’Donnell had a no-hitter into the 6th when the Bulls singled. The Irish scored in the 2nd, Thornton scoring on Jorgensborg’s 2-out double. Torres scored in the 3rd on an error at short. Marrone singled in the 4th; Jorgensborg’s sac bunt turned into a 2-run error. Up 4-0, the Irish loaded the bases, and scored on Miller’s single.
Missouri 10, SIU-Edwardsville 0. Thomas pitched the first 4 perfect innings; Kristin Nottelman the perfect 5th — Missouri’s third perfect game this season. Kudoes also to the Tigers lineup; 9 hits, no errors. Mizzou scored two bottom 1st when Fleming doubled in 2 runs. Tigers loaded bases with one out in 2nd; Marston singled, 2 rbi. Taylor scored on Hudson groundout. Tigers doubled their tally with 5 in the 3rd: Lee and Schwarzberge singled, Simmons walked, reloading the bases; Poet rbi single; Krebs grounded to the pitcher, rbi; Poet and Simmon scored on an error; Marston singled, rbi. Thomas struck out the side in the 4th. Nottleman struck out 2 in the 5th. Missouri 39-6. SIUE 25-25.
Texas 3, Baylor 0. The Bears thwarted Texas offensive sorties for 3 innings; in the 4th, Hooks singled; with 2 out, Craig walked, Bruins singled, rbi; Hoagland singled with bases loaded, Craig scored. Hooks homered in the 5th. Texas 43-4. Baylor 36-11.
Georgia 6, Kennesaw State 1. Bases loaded, bottom 1st, Wiggins scored on Razey single. Trout walked, scored in 2nd on Pauly double. Bulldogs loaded bases again in 3rd: Couey scored on Trout sac fly. {ai; reached onan error, Sandberg scored. Double steal: Pauly stole 2nd, Hubbard stole home. Georgia 4th: Wiggins singled, stole 2nd, advanced on a wild pitch, scored on Hesson groundout. Georgia 41-7. Kennesaw State 28=23.
Oklahoma State 2, Oklahoma 1. The Sooners have now lost to five of the other 9 teams in the Big 12, and this weekend face Texas, undefeated in Big 12 action. The Cowgirls scored both runs, bottom 2nd. One out, Ward singled, Brown homered. OU stranded 2 in the 1st, one in the 2nd, and left bases loaded in the 3rd, plus one in the 4th, before scoring its run in the 5th on a one-out homer by Nix. Martinez singled in the 7th but was stranded. Oklahoma State managed just one base runner after scoring in the 2nd. Oklahoma State 37-11/8-4. Oklahoma 34-15/7-7.
LSU 2, Southern Mississippi 0. LSU has won 17 of its last 20 games, six in a row. Fico pitched 4 innings of shutout, Mack finished the last three. The Tigers scored both runs in the 2nd. Russell singled to center; pinch runner Boulet stole 2nd and 3rd; Shaw rbi single. Hayward beat out an infield single; the ball got away from thr shortstop and Shaw scored. LSU is 32-15. Southern Miss is 17-30.
