GAME NOTES
California sef Utah 10-0.(5).  WP Jolene Henderson/  LP Mariah Ramirez.  Top-ranked Cal opened the Pac 12 season with a 2-hit shutout by Henderson.  The Bears, who outhit the Utes 10-2, racked 4 runs in top 2nd.  Cordes opened with a homer; Danielle Henderson walked; Jones doubled; Edwards doubled, 2 rbi; Echevarria scored (?).  Codes led the Cal 3rd with a double, and scored with two out on Echevarria’s double.  Two out in the 4th, 2 on, Damielle Henderson homered, 3rbi.  Echevarria closed out the scoring with a 2-run homer.  Cal 34-1 (7-0).  tah 23-10 (0-4).

Notre Dame 8, Purdue 6.  The Irish ended the Boilermaker’s 8-game winning streeak.  WP Laura Winter.  LP Lexy Moore.  One out, bottom 1st, Purdue took the lead on Rains 2-run homer.  Notre Dame  tied, top 2nd; Two on, runners advancing on an illegal pitch, Haus rbi single.  Bases loaded, Koerner scored on an illegal pitch, the third called this inning.  Two out in the bottom, Purdue regained the lead on Garst rbi triple. Irish 3rd: Maldonado singled, two out, Miller singled rbi.  Top 4th, the Irish lost a runner at the plate but Maldonado doubled in 2 runs for the first Irish lead.  The Irish lead grw to 6-4 in the 5th on Miller’s 2-out homer.  With 2 on bottom half, O’Donnell relieved Winter.  Fletcher singled, 2 rbi.  6-5 Irish.  Each team scored a run in the 6th.  Up 7-6. the Irish closed out the scoring top 7th; on Koerner’s one-out double.  Notre Dame 19-10.  Purdue 23-10. 

 Oklahoma 3, Texas Tech 1.  Keilani Ricketts moved to 18-4 on the year as she held Texas Tech to just one hit for her fifth one-hit ball game of the season. Ricketts struck out 11 Red Raiders in her 13th double-digit strikeout game of the season while walking just two batters. Texas Tech’s lone hit came off a Sandy James home run in the first while the Sooners collected eight hits to move to 28-1 in games this season when they collect at least seven hits.  Kelsey Dennis took the loss for Texas Tech after giving up two runs, one earned, against six batters in one-third of an inning. Cara Custer started the game for the Red Raiders, pitching 5.2 innings and giving up one run. The James solo shot was just the third home run given up by Ricketts this season.  The Sooners were held scoreless until the fourth inning when Brianna Turang laid down a bunt before back-to-back singles from Brittany Williams and Javen Henson.  Turang raced home on Matinez rbi groundout to knot up the game at one run apiece.  Oklahoma expanded its lead by two runs in the bottom of the fifth off two hits and with the help of a Texas Tech error. Ricketts led off with a walk before Jessica Shults singled to right field to put Oklahoma runners on first and second. A Georgia Casey hit to first was misplayed by Texas Tech relief pitcher Kelsey Dennis allowing Casey to reach via an error and Ricketts to race around third for OU’s second run of the game.  After Casey stole second, Katie Norris was walked before Turang reached on a fielder’s choice with Casey being thrown out at third and Shults advancing home for OU’s third and final run.

Texas 9. Missouri 5.  WP Blaire Luna.  LP Chelsea Thomas. The game was marred by 3 errors on each team, which figured into the scoring.   The Tigers led 4-0 after 4.5, but the Longhorns scored 5 aruns in the bottom of the 5th and 4 runs bottom 6th.  With one out, top 4rd, Fleming reached on an error at short, Stephens and Marston, who had both singled, scored.  Marston reached on an error top 5th, and scored when Fleming singled.  Hudson who had walked was out at home.  Missouri 4-0.In the bottom, TSaylor singled; with one out, Ogle doubled; Schmidt singled, 2 rbi.  Hoagland singled; after a sac bunt, moved the runners, Bennett walked, loading the bases, which Craig cleared with a double.  5-4 Horns.  Taylor opened the Texas 6th with a single; Erwin relieved Thomas.  One out, Ogle reached on an error, Schmidt rbi double.  Two outs, Washington reached on an error, 2 runs scored.  Bennett singled, Washington scored on an error.  9-3.  Missouri recoupeqd 2 runs, top 7th; bases loaded, Fleming singled in 2 runs.  Texas 32-2 (6-0).  Missouri 28-6 (7-3_.

 

 Arizona 2, Washington 0.  WP Shelby Babcock. LP Kaitlyn Inglesby. Each team had 5 hits but the Huskies made 3 errors.  The Wildcats scored both runs, top 2nd.  Pendley singled, Arriola doubled, rbi.  Koria walked, with one out, Buchanan walked; Wilson singled to right field, rbi.  Arizona left 3 runners on base;  they also left 2 runners onin the 4th and again in the 6th.  The Huskies bats were also cold; they left 2 runners on in each of the first 4 innings, then stranded 3 in the 5th.  Arizona left runners on 2nd and 4rd in the 6th, but the Huskies managed just a single.  Arizona could not expand its lead in the 7th, while the Huskies, with 2 out, had runners on thanks to walks by  Lahners and Souza.  Gano struck out swinging. 

Arizona State def UCL:A 9-1 (6).  WP Dallas Escobedo.  LP Jessica Hall.  Leading 4-1 afteer 5 innins, the Sun Devils effectively iced the game with a 5-run outburt bottom 6th.  Johnson and Caporuscio had rbi, and Carda relieved Hall with the bases loaded.  Steele cleared the bases with a double up the middle.  Arizona State 33-4 (5-1).  UCLA 25-8 (2-2).

Oregon 8, Stanford 5.  WP Jessica Moore.  LP Teagan Gerhart.  The Ducks tagged Gerhart for 2 home runs.  Ceo scored top 1st on Cuico’s sac fly.  The Ducks added two more, top 3rd, on Howard’s 2-run homer.  Bottom: Winter walked, scored on White’s single plus error.  Hansen drove in the second runwith a triple.  Pappas tripled and sdcored on an error in the Ducks 4t., 4-2.  Oregon bumped that marginup with 3 runs in the 5th on Cuico’s 3-run homer.  Stanford answered with 2 in the bottom, on Rich’s bases-loaded single.  Another Cardinal run crossed in the 7th, Schmidt scoring on White’s single, but Oregon countered with a final run of its own top 7th, Chambers scoring on Peterson’s single.
