Georgia 8, Longwood 0. Wells gave up a 2-out solo HR to Wiggins but held the Dawgs at bay until bottom 5th when they scored 7 runs. Trout singled, Pauly reached on an error; Schlopy singled with one out; Goler smacked a 3-run double; Branch scored when Hesson reached on an error; two out, Sandberg doubled, rbi; Hubbard doubled, rbi; Short relieved Wells. Trout singled; Georgia reached run-rule when Hubbard scored on an error.
Longwood 7, Georgia 5. The Bulldogs led 5-0 after 5, then 5-2 after 6, but Longwood erupted for 5 runs top 7th. Wiggins homered to open the Georgia 1st; one out, Goler reached on an error; Hesson singled, the run scored on Razey’s sac fly. Two out bottom 5th: Schlopy and Goler singled, Hesson jacked a 3-run homer. Georgia put Alison Owen in the circle for the 6th. Owen lasted 2 batters; Margadonna singled, Short doubled to left center. Arevalo relieved Nelson and Wells hit rbi singles, 5-2. Top 7th: Simmons singled, but was forced at 2nd by Margadonna; Short hit another double, rbi. Kramer reached on an error at short; two out, Wells singled, rbi. Long belted a 3-run homer. Georgia down in order. Georgia 45-11. Longwood 37-13.
Louisiana Tech 2, Fresno State 0. Moses pitched a 3-hitter with 9 Ks but lost when her team could knock only 2 hits. The scoreboard was replete with naughts until the 6th when Tech scored both runs. Two out, Frandrup on base, Kipp belted a 2-run homer. The Bulldogs had a scoring opportunity in the bottom; Gilleland reached on a fielder’s choice, followed by Ortega’s single but the rally ended on 2 fly balls. A favorite based on comparative records, Fresno State went down in order in the 7th. Fresno State 31-16. Louisiana Tech 16-37.
Penn State 4, Ohio State 3 (9). The Buckeyes led 3-1 after 3; the Lady Lions tied in the 5th. Top 9th: Hutchinson walked; Johnson doubled; the run scored on Sovereign’s sac fly. Castillo hit a 1-out single in the bottom but was stranded. Penn State 27-22-1/90-8-1. Ohio State 14-35/3-15.
