The Tigers scored 3 runs, top 1st; one out, Cartwright was hbp; White reached on an error; Guzman singled, rbi; Smiley singled up the middle, 2 rbi. Moultrie led the Gators 1st with a single, 2 outs later, Schutte singled, both were stranded. Top 2nd: Eisterhold singled; Hannah Rogers relieved Brombacher. Bottom 4th: Schutte walked; Bunner relieved Jamie Lorre. Coyle singled with one out; DeFelice singled, rbi. Horton grounded into a double play. Auburn 5th: Cartwright reached on an error by Rogers. Missouri 5, Oklahoma State 1. The Tigers, who could still win the Big 12, yielded a run to the Cowgirls, bottom 1st. Gearhart singled, Morrison reached on an error; Hamilton reached on a fielder’s choice, forcing Morrison, Gearhart scored the only OSU run. Two out, top 2nd, Ruggeberg singled, Simmons homered, 2-1 Tigers. Missouri added 2 in the 3rd; Vock walked, Taylor reached on an error (The Cowgirls made 3); Marston forced Vock at 3rd; a double steal put runners at 2nd and 3rd; Hudson doubled, rbi; Fleming sac fly; 4-1. Top 4th: Espinosa relieved Freeman. Simmons singled, one out later, scored the final run on Poet’s sac fly. Missouri 44-7/13-3. Oklahoma State 37-15/8-8.
#1 New Mexico State 5, W1 #4 Hawai’i 4. Stephanie Ricketts started for Hawaii, and left the game with the score tied 1-1. Hawaii broke that tie in the 5th, scoring 3 runs; Iwata singled in 2 runs, Gonzalez one. Down 4-1, NMS scored 2 bottom 6th on Randall’s double. Bottom 7th: Jennings walked; Nohara, at the top of many NCAA hitting tables, jacked a 2-run walkoff homer. New Mexico State 41-15. Hawaii 37-17.
Notre Dame 6, Providence 4. Notre Dame overcame a late deficit with timely hitting to deal eighth-seeded Providence a 6-4defeat. The 18th-ranked Irish trailed, 4-2, heading into the bottom of the sixth before using five hits to post four runs. Notre Dame (45-8) will play in the tournament’s 5:00 p.m. (ET) semifinal game on Friday again Louisville. Alexa Maldonado scored an unearned run in the top of the first and Sadie Pitzenberger dropped a double just inside the leftfield line to drive in Notre Dame’s second run of the frame. Pitzenberger would go on to collect one more of Notre Dame’s eight hits on the day, and Heather Johnson also had two hits to share team-high honors.The Friars retired 12 straight Irish batters before Lauren Stuhr singled to third base in the fifth. Providence’s first hit came in the top of the fourth, a one-out single through the right side by Michelle Huber. Its second hit was recorded one batter laterin the form of a two-run homer by Justine Stratton. Stratton duplicated the feat in the sixth with another two-run dinger to put the Friars ahead, 4-2. Notre Dame loaded the bases in the bottom half of the penultimate stanza for Pitzenberger, who sent the first pitch she saw to left to bring home a run. Katie Fleury drove in the tying run with another single, the fifth straight in the inning. Erin Marrone sent a sacrifice fly to center for a fifth score and Pitzenberger crossed one batter later on one of two Providence errors. Brittany O’Donnell slammed the door with a flawless seventh that included a pair of strikeouts for her first save of the season to ensure a 14th straight win for the Irish. Providence cranked out four hits and four earned runs on Laura Winter (24-3) in 6.0 innings, but Winter struck out seven without issuing a walk. Corinne Clauss (11-14) went the distance for Providence and gave up all six runs on eight hits. She struck out one Irish batter.
#1 Alabama 5, #8 Mississippi State 1. After scoring the first run of the game in the 3rd, the Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead.Two on, Smith scored on Lenahan’s single. Bama tied the score, bottom 4th. Laresn doubled, Traina walked with one out, both advanced on a wild pitch, Larsen scored on Lunceford’s sac fly. With 2 out in the 5th, Bama found the range. Braud and Fenton singled; Larsen jacked a 3-run homer. Bama 6th: Lunceford tripled, scored on Hunt’s sac fly. Bama is 46-7. Mississippi State 24-32. Alabama faces Georgia on Friday. Mississippi State eliminated.
Oregon 6, UCLA 5. The scoring was over by the 5th. Oregon scored 2 bottom 1st. Ceo singled, stole 2nd. Chambers reached on an error at 3rd, Ceo scored. Howard bunt single. Fulava reached on fielder’s choice, Chambers out at home. Vitek reached on another error by DiSalvatore at 3rd, Howard scored. The Ducks racked 4 in the 2nd. Peterson and Cuico singled; one out, Ceo singled, loading the bases; two out, Howard slugged a grand slam. Now it was the Bruins turn. Top 3rd, Bates one out single, Fox walked, Harrison singled, rbi. Top 4th, Yudin hbp, Schroeder in to run; one out, Hall singled; two out, Schroeder scored on a wild pitch. DiSalvatore walked, Hall, Bates and DiSalvatore scored, 6-5. Bruins 5th, Harrison singled, Tiumalu walked, Moore struck out the side. Lindvall singled in the 6th, Schroeder sinkgled in the 7th, but UCLA could not close. Oregon38-13/10-9. UCLA 32-16/8-11.
Arizona 2, California 1 (10). The Wildcats won a squeaker; the Bears lost a heartbreaker. Cal scored top 3rd; Jamia Reid and Vonk singled; Williams walked, loading the bases; Reid scored on Ziegenhirt’s sac fly. Cal held that lead into the 7th, when Cal stranded two. In the bottom, Arizona was down to its last out; with Koria on 2nd, two out, Kirker singled, rbi. Arizona left bases loaded. Over the next three at-bats, Cal had a single. Bottom 10th: Chambers singled; advanced on Arriola’s sacrifice; two out, Koria was given a pass; Brawley singled, Chambers scored the winning run. Arizona 40-14/11-8. Cal 37-10/13-6.
