Notre Dame swept Pittsburgh.   Dani Miller demolished a game-one homer as the 21st-ranked Notre Dame softball team rattled off eight unanswered runs in an 8-1 BIG EAST Conference win over Pittsburgh Wednesday at Melissa Cook Stadium during a doubleheader televised nationally on ESPNU. Notre Dame (41-8 overall, 16-1 BIG EAST) did not allow an earned run in the  opener behind Laura Winter, and Brittany O’Donnell surrendered just a pair of infield hits in game two en route to an 8-0 shutout victory. The Panthers (31-16, 10-8) entered the doubleheader on a seven-game winning streak.  Alexia Clay (3-3) went yard with a two-run job to right during a four-run fourth inning in game two. Clay also scored three times.  Irish registered double-figure hit totals in both games, a feat accomplished in  six of the last nine affairs.
Illinois 6, Iowa 2.  Two out, bottom 1st, Hawkeyes loaded bases; Watkins walked, rbi, Akers scored.  Lead was short-lived;  Illini scored 4 runs top 2nd: Vail singled but was forced at 2nd by Gallien; Casablanca walked; Cuevas rbi single; Conrad singled, bases loaded; Zymkowitz singled to center, 2 rbi; Conrad scored on a wild pitch.  Klein belted a one-out homer in the Iowa 3rd.  Two out, top 4th, Zymkowitz and Pinchback scored on Davis double.  Illinois 24-20/11-7.  Iowa is 26-23/8-10.
Illinois 8, Iowa 2.  First game of the double-header, Illinois led 6-0 after 3.5 innings.  Illinois scored 2 top 1st; Zymkowitz led the game with a single; Pinchback walked, forced at 2nd by Hackett, both scored on Davis single.  Tarnawa scored in 2nd on Zymkowitz double.  Illinois 4th, one out; Conrads and Zymkowitz singled, both scored on Pinchback single; Hackett forced Pinchback, but scored on Davis double.  Down 6-0, Iowa scored bottom 4th on Dowling’s 2-out homer.  Zoeller singled and scored in the Iowa 5th on Akers double.  Illinois closed out the scoring top 7th on Zymkowitz 2-run homer.
Michigan swept Ohio State.  Solid day for Jordan Taylor; in two games, she yielded 3 hits while striking out  18.  Alycia Ryan jacked 2 home runs in Game 2Chidester and Lane had 2 rbi each.  Ohio State made 3  errors in Game 1.  Michigan’s Amanda Chidester led the hit parade with a grand slam home run and 5 rbi.  Lane had a 3-run homer.  Michigan 47-4/13-2.  Ohio State 13-31/2-12.
Texas A&M 5, Texas 1.  The Longhorns lost just their second Big 12 game.  Top 1st, Hoagland singled, but was forced at 2nd by Washingotn, who scored on Thom’s double.  Texas would rack only 2 more hits.  The Aggies took the lead with 2 runs bottom 2nd; Spittled led with a single; two out, Dumezich singled.    Walker walked, loading the bases.  Villareal singled to left, 2 rbi.  Texas stranded 2 top 3rd.  Dumezich struck out the side in the 5th.  Bottom: TAMU doubled its lead on Garza’s 2 run homer.  When Morgan followed with a single, Fox relieved Luna.  Dumezich walked; TAMU stranded two.  The Aggies loaded bases bottom 6th but got just one run, leaving two.  The Horns went down in order top 7th.  Texas 44-6.  Texas A&M 37-13.
Florida 1, Florida State 0.  Seminole pitcher Sara Hamilton gve up just 1 hit but it decided the game — a solo shot by Aja Paculba.  The traditional game ended non-conference play for both teams. The Gators have a crucial SEC matchup with Tennessee this weekend.    Florida 44-8/18-7.  Florida State 26/24.
