Jessica Moore leads Oregon to three wins and earns USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week honors
OKLAHOMA CITY — For her outstanding play, Oregon Duck Senior Jessica Moore (Sutter, Calif.) is the Week 13 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced today. The California native contributed from the plate, going three-for-six for a .500 batting average, and in the circle as she threw 17 innings with a 0.41 ERA en route to three wins over the week.
“I’m really honored to be have been selected as the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week,” said Moore. “The award adds to the great year that we have had so far, and I’m so glad to be a part of it. Winning a Pac-12 title was a huge step for this program. It adds to our legacy and gives us extra momentum heading into the future. We’re excited to be starting the final month of the season, and feeling stronger and stronger.”
Moore won all three starts this past week and allowed only two hits in all three of her five-plus inning appearances. She posted nine strikeouts in a 4-0 win over Seattle and again in an 8-0 win over conference foe Oregon State. The senior also had five strikeouts in her first appearance against the Beavers. Moore improved her school career record for wins (97), strikeouts (875), innings (862) and appearances (168). The senior allowed just two hits in each game she pitched.
On the offensive side, Moore was just as productive as she hit home runs against both Seattle and Oregon State. The Duck also posted a team-high 1.500 slugging percentage on the week. With the wins, the Ducks claimed their first-ever Pac-12 title and remained undefeated at home on the season. Oregon also advanced to No. 2 in this week’s ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll, up from No. 4 last week.
“We’re so thrilled that Jess was selected for such a prestigious honor,” said Oregon head coach Mike White. “She has worked very hard the past four years, and has always been a leader on and off the field. The timing of the award is especially fitting after she helped the team win its first Pac-12 title at home on Senior Day.”
This is the first USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week honor for the senior and the first Player of the Week honor for an Oregon Duck in the 11-year history of the award.
