Game 7: LSU 1, USF 0


  • In a WCWS elimination game, LSU beat USF 1-0.  The Tigers advance to play at Arizona State tonight at 6 CT for a spot in the semifinals.


  • LSU improved to 40-24 overall this season, 42-27 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and 6-5 in WCWS play.


  • USF finished its season with a 50-14 overall record and fell to 0-2 in its first ever WCWS appearance.


  • LSU senior pitcher Brittany Mack tossed her 15th career shutout to move into a seventh-place tie on LSU’s career list (Brandi Landry, 1997-98; Cody Trahan, 2007-10). She allowed two hits and four walks while striking out eight.


  • Mack picked up her 16th victory this season and second of the postseason. She now has four career postseason wins, two this season.


  • LSU has held its opponent to one run or less in eight of its last 10 games, including six of its eight postseason games.


  • The Tigers scored the only run (unearned) of the game in the bottom of the sixth when A.J. Andrews tagged up and scored on Allison Falcon’s pop to shortstop. Andrews reached base when she was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a fielding error by USF centerfielder Janine Richardson.


  • Falcon’s RBI was her 23rd this season, second most on the LSU team this season.


  • LSU’s Simone Heyward was thrown out trying to steal second base in the fourth inning. It marked her first caught stealing of the season. She is now 9-for-10 this year in stolen base attempts.


  • USF freshman Sydney Dinelli made her first career appearance at first base after sophomore Stephanie Medina was injured during a collision with LSU’s Andrews in the third inning. Medina has started in all 117 games of her career at USF.


  • Saturday was the first time USF was shut out since May 10 when the Bulls lost to DePaul, 6-0.


  • USF tallied just two hits in the game, tying its lowest hit total this postseason. USF also had just two hits in its 1-0 win over Central Florida in the first round of the NCAA Gainesville Regional.
