TEAM USA REBOUNDS IN CANADA

After a bombs-away first inning in which Team USA outscored Team Canada 6-4, the USA won the third of four games at Softball City in Surrey BC by a score of 12-5.  The USA had lost the first two games; the series in Surrey concludes Sunday with the teams going to Whitehorse for additional games.

Team USA, visitors in this game, racked Ashley Lanz for seven hits, starting with a leadoff single by Chelsea B ramlett, followed by a Brittany Lastrapes single.  The runners advanced on a Alissa Haber’s fly to center.  Kaitlin Cochran jacked a 3-run homer.  Megan Langenfeld, whose long ball heroics catapu.lted UCLA to victory in the WCWS, homered.  Ashley Charters singled, ahead of a homer by Valerie Arioto.  Tina Andreana relieved Lanz.  Molly Johnson grounded to short.  Ashley Hansen singled. Bramlett walked on four pitches.  Lastrapes reached on an error at 3rd by Jillian Russell.  Haber looked at a third strike to end the at-bat, USA up 6-0.

In the bottom  half, Team Canada tagged Jordan Taylor for four runs.  Melanie Matthews singled, Caitlin Lever doubled in a run.  Jennifer Yee and Sheena Lawrick singled.  Jennifer Salling walked on four pitches, forcing in a run by Lever.  Kaleigh Rafter reached on a fielder’s choice, Yee scoring.  Russell flied out to 1st.  Erin Cumpstone singled, driving in two runs.  Joanne Leye looked at a third strike.  Team USA 6-4.

Megan Langenfeld drew a walk in the 2nd but was stranded.  Team Canada came back with another run off Taylor.  Matthews singled, advanced on Lever’s sac bunt to the pitcher.  Yee walked on four pitches.  Angela Tincher relieved Taylor.  Lawrick grounded to 2nd, but Matthews scored.  Salling flied out to center.  Team USA 6-5.

Team USA rocked Andreana in top 3rd.  Johnson doubled; Hansen flied out to 3rd.  Johnson scored on Bramlett’s single, Bramlett reached 3rd on an error by Lawrick.  Lastrapes reached on an error by Andreana, on which Bramlett scored, Lastrapes to 3rd.  Lauren Schutzler singled in Lastrapes.  Cochran singled, Schutzler taking 3rd, but Cochran was out attempting to steal 2nd.  Marina Demore relieved Andreana and walked Langenfeld on four pitches.  Schutzler scored on a wild pitch.  Charters struck out.  Team USA 10-5.

Tincher put down Canada 1-2-3, two on strikeouts to end the 3rd.

Neither team reached base in the 4th.

Top 5th, Team USA reached the run-rule margin.  Bramlett opened with a single.  Lastrapes was safe on Salling’s throwing error, Bramlett scoring.  Schutzler struck out looking.  Shanna Wilson relieved Demore, and was greeted by Cochran’s single, driving in Lastrapes.  Langenfeld looked at a third strike.  Cochran stole 2nd and went to 3rd on a wild pitch.  Charters walked on four pitches, but Arioto lined out to end the at-bat.  Team USA 12-5.

In the bottom, Yee flied out to 1st; Lawrick flied out to short, Salling walked on four pitches, and Tincher struck out Rafter looking on three pitches to end the game by run-rule, 12-5.

Team USA outhit Team Canada 14-6.  Canada made four errors.

Angela Tincher was the winning pitcher; Ashley Lanz the losing pitcher.  The USA stranded 7 runners, Canada 4.
