GAME NOTES
Beverly Bandits 6, Batbusters 4
This game was a seminal moment for Coach Gary Haning. The Batbusters last won the Boulder tournament six years ago and in recent years had not won beyond pool play.
Literally a game in two parts. Top 1st, Bandits built a 6-0 lead off Michelle Floyd. Leadoff Sammy Marshall reached on a throwing error by Floyd. Abby Ramirez’ bunt was mishandled by Floyd. Shannon Cawley bunted, r\bi. Ellie Cooper walked to load the bases. A run scored on an error at 1st. A sac bunt scored another. Hanne Stuedemann capped the rally with a 3-run home run. After Ramirez was hbp, Amber Padilla pitched the remainder of the game for the Batbusters, and held the Bandits to 2 hits. After three fruitless at-bats, the BBH broke through when Maddy Jelenicki scored on an rbi by Erika Campbell. After an out, Delaney Spaulding jacked a 3-run homer. 6-4. The 5th was quiet. Bottom 6th: Brittany Moeal singled to right. Campbell doubled.Spaulding popped to 2nd. Lauren Young walked, loading the bases. Then, the play of the game. Takeda slashed a line drive – direct to a diving Gabby Ramirez who converted a double play which ended the game. Lora Olson pitched all the Bandit games.
CA Batbusters def Team North Florida 3-2.
This victory should have been gift-wrapped. Team North Florida’s ace shortstop Sammi Fagan walked and scored on a passed ball in the 1st. TNF loaded the bases but left them full when Bailey Schinella, whose home run helped vanquish the Choppers on Saturday, lined out to left. Two innings later, Fagan doubled and scored again on a sac fly by Kelsey Carpenter. Bottom 5th: Katiyana Mauga walked, a pinch runner was inserted. Delaney Spaulding rapped a ground rule double. Lauren Young’s fly ball turned into a 2-run error when the right fielder threw wildly to home attempting to nail the runner from 3rd; the ball rolled well away from the catcher, both runners scored, tying the game. Alexis (Chip) Bennett walked; the speedy Bennett raced for 2nd, and the TNF catcher threw the ball into center field, the winning run scoring from 3rd, capping the Batbusters 23rd game in 10 days. Carly Hoover pitched for TNF.
IL Beverly Bandits def CA Lady Magic 4-2
Alexis Cooper pitched for Lady Magic, Lora Olson for Bandits. Katy LaCivita homered for the Bandits.
CA Batbusters def CA Cruisers 7-0
Nancy Bowling, still recovering from injury, started for BBH; Allie Rhodes for Cruisers. Katiyana Mauga reached and scored on an error. Sierra Rpomero slugged a home run. A double play 2 innings later did not stop the BBH, who crafted a 5-run inning, capped by Maddy Jelenicki’s 3-run homer.
Team North Florida def East Cobb Bullets 6-4
These teams are much different than the squads which competed for the 2010 ASA Gold Nationals, won by ECB. Late in the game, the Bullets were down 4-3; tied, the game went to ITB. Bailey Schinella broke the tie driving in 2 runs. Randee Bettis pitched for ECB; Holly McKinnon for TNF.
CA Lady Magic def CA Explosion 5-2
Game was tied 2-2 when Brittanie Akey drove in a run, followed by Haley Snyder’s 2-run homer. Snyder pitched for Magic; Alexis Borden for Explosion.
IL Beverly Bandits def So Cal Breakers 6-5
The Breakers played catchup. Down 3-2, Haley Steele tied with a home run. The Bandits went up 5-3, then 6-3. Again, the Breakers responded, two runs including Kayti Grable’s homer narrowed the final score.
IL Southern Force 16s vs CA 16U Batbusters.
In 2004, Gerry Glasco piloted the Gold Southern Force, featuring Kaycee Koonce and Erin Glasco, to the Gold national championship. This afternoon, Gerry watched daughter Tara Glasco’s 16U team win the Boulder championship 9-6 – a long-ball affair.
Force was up by 5 runs, led by Ansley Ard’s 3-run homer. Force led 9-3 when Tsingos CaraMia jacked a 3-run shot. The Batbusters narrowed the margin to 9-6 on a 3-run dinger by Taylor Swearingen.

Comment
Another highly competitive Boulder tournament under the able leadership of Dan Burns and his management staff who reshuffled the schedule to overcome rain-outs. The draw was well-balanced. The hundreds of attending college coaches saw top talent at each of the three complexes.
