Goler’s Three Run Home Run Lifts Bandits Over Comets, 5

– Michelle Gascoigne (2-0, 2.07 ERA) started in the circle for the Bandits who overcame the Comets with a 5-2 win, and now lead the series 2-1.  The Comets’ loss dropped pitcher Angel Bunner to 1-4 on the season (5.36 ERA).
The Comets got off to a quick start with a solo lead-off home run by Amanda Kamekona.  The Bandits were unable to respond when their turn came, and headed into the second inning down 1-0.
In the bottom of the second, the Bandits evened the score with a single by Eri Yamada that brought in Tammy Williams for the Bandits’ 100th run of the season.  With the bases loaded, the Comets managed to escape the inning tied.
In the bottom of the fourth, Yamada drew a walk and was put in scoring position after a sacrifice bunt and wild pitch landed her at third base.  Vicky Galindo took advantage and smashed a double to left-center, allowing Yamada to score and give the Bandits a one run lead.  Yamada’s run marked the Bandits’ 50th run at the Ballpark at Rosemont on the year.  Bunner threw consecutive strikeouts to keep the Comets within one heading into the fifth inning with the score 2-1.
The Comets came out strong to tie the game at 2-2 as Amy Hooks batted in Courtney Liddle. With the bases loaded, Monica Abbott (6-1, 0.17 ERA) entered the game to pitch and brought the inning to an end with a strikeout.
The Bandits recorded three hits in the bottom of the inning from Butler, Williams, and Kimi Pohlman, but were unable to break the tie.  Abbott threw her fourth strikeout in less than two innings to bring the Bandits into the bottom of the sixth with hopes to gain the lead.
Alisa Goler stepped up to the plate and smashed her second home run of the season, bringing Wiggins and Watanabe home with her, giving the Bandits a 5-2 edge going into the seventh.
Abbott walked the leadoff hitter but after Williams threw out the next batter at first, she redeemed herself and pitched for her fifth and sixth strikeout to end the game with a win and 2-1 lead in the series.
