USA Softball Opens International Play in Canada
OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2011 USA Softball Women’s National Team will open up International play beginning tomorrow, Sat., July 9 at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship in Surrey, British Colombia. The schedule features some of the top teams in the World in Japan, Australia, Canada and Venezuela, with the majority of the 2011 Team making their first-ever International appearance.
Although this marks the first International experience, this is not the first competition for the team as they recently completed an exhibition tour, making appearances in Tampa, Fla., Salem, Va., and Bowie, Md. The National Team faced the USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team in six games for six wins.
“We’re very excited to play in the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship. It is another opportunity for us to come together as a team and fine tune some things before the World Cup of Softball in our home country,” said National Team Member Megan Langenfeld (Bakersfield, Calif.). “We’re also looking forward to the great competition we’ll be facing in the next week. Its truly the best in the World and will be a great test for our team.”
The first day of play may prove to be the toughest day of competition as they will face the 2008 Olympic Gold Medal winning team Japan and 2008 Olympic Bronze Medal winning team Australia.
Live stats along will box scores, play by plays and standings will be available at the start of the tournament at www.CanadianOpenFastpitch.com.
