Note that this tournament is using college umpires, not ASA umpires, and by agreement are playing under highschool federation rules.

Each team plays three games in each pool;  games began Monday

The following teams each had 3-0 records in pool:

Random Game Notes

OC Batbusters 2, LA Voodoo 0.  Good outing for Nancy Bowling (Arizona), but not a standout day for Batbuster hitters.  They scored first run in 5th on a walk to Cassandra Roulund who tallied on a passed ball.  The second run was scored bottom 6th when  Kellyanna Mauga  walked and a pinch runner scored on catcher error.  Both runs were charged to reliever Megan Patterson (LSU).  We were much impressed with 2011 lefty Rachael Huggins who has a big sweeping curve ala Monica Abbott (but not her string of Ks), and drop – with considerable movement which also caught the eye of Batbuster coaches.  We were also impressed with Voodoo Priscilla Burns 2011 at 3rd; a rifle.

Worth Firecrackers 7, Eclipse 4.  WP Bailey Foster, with relief by Hallie Wilson.  LP Gabriella Smith.  Janelle Lindval and Leah White 2 rbi each for Firecrackers.  Kaitlyn Friedel had 2 rbi for Eclipse.

Worth Fircrackers 9, LA Voodoo 0.  1-hitter  by Hallie Wilson.

OC Batbusters 4, Worth Firecrackers 3.  WP Arianna Erceg.  LP Tera Blanco.  Batbusters took 2-0 lead, one run on solo shot by Cheyanne Coyle.  Firecrackers tied with 2 runs, top 5th, only to have Batbusters push lead to 4-2.  Firecrackers added run in 6th.

TX Eclipse Gold 2, OC Batbusters 0.  WP Ashley Wright; LP Nancy Bowling.  Each pitcher gave up four hits.  Eclipse scored 2 runs, top 2nd.  Friedel opened with a single; with one out, Virgil walked.  A passed ball advanced both runners; with two  out, Linares singled in both runs.

So Cal Athletics 4, Shamrocks 0.  Strong game by Kayla Massey (Iowa) and SCA defense which snuffed Shamrocks’ attempted rallies.  Jenna Kelly (North Carolina) delivered crushing blow, a 2-run homer.

Texas Impact 7, NJ Inferno 0.  Impact scored 4 runs in 1st, on an infield higt, a walk, and a hit batter, capped by a home run by Cassandra Barefield (Northwestern State).

Three more runs tallied in 2nd on a single, an infield hit when no one covered 1st; an error at 1st, and a broken pickle.  Very uncharacteristic fielding for a Don Meister team.  Game gave brief look at skills of pitcher Rachel Fox (Texas).

Explosion 2, TX Storm 1.  Good game.  Storm loaded bases in last inning with two out, down 2-0, Lauren Montgomery (2012) singled up the middle for a run but the rally died on a grounder back to the pitcher Amy Letourneau (Northwestern).  Abby Linn scored first run for Explosion on catcher error; Janelle Gusiff scored second run on sac fly.  Lauren McClary started for Storm; Kendall Stieffel finished.

Killer Bees 5, Shamrocks 2.  Macy Jones, who has just verballed to Penn State, gave the Shamrocks the initial lead with a 2-run home run.

Beverly Bandits 4, Carolina Cardinals 1.  Cardinals came out swinging, leadoff hitter Carleigh Nester jacked a home run, but the Bandits were in control the rest of the game.  Top 4th, two on, Madison Ruggeberg (Missouri) laid down perfect squeeze bunt for tying run.  Bandits won all three pool games.

CA Cruisers 7, PA Chaos 6.  Cruisers won two other games in pool, both shutouts, but were pushed by Chaos.  Cruisers had 7 hits, Chaos 6, but game was marked by 4 Chaos errors and 3 by Cruisers.  Morgan Montemayor won in relief.  Chaos racked Selena Pola for 6 runs, 4 in first inning.  Cruisers scored 6 of 7 runs off Carolyn Szymanski.   Jackie McBride who tripled had 3 rbi for Chaos.

Illinois Chill 3, SC Choppers 2.  Chill scored two runs bottom 6th to come from behind against a Choppers team which manufactured single runs in the 4th and 5th.  Bottom 5th Megan Mattera hit a solo shot for Chill, but  Choppers struck out side.  Bottom 6th: Wade singled; stole 2nd, then scored tying run on Duehr’s double.  Sanchez singled in the winner.

Arizona Hotshots 4, NJ Breakers 2.  Hotshots won all three pool games.  They were outhit by Breakers, 10-7, but Breakers committed three errors.  Jennifer Tyler defeated Valerie Cassell.

Jersey Intensity 5, So Cal Firecrackers 2.  Intensity was surprised first game by Fury but showed their potential today against Firecrackers and Strike Zone.  J Spencer was winning pitcher over Kayla Klein.  Ala DiMaso homered for Intensity.

Fury 13, Strike Zone 1.  Fury, which was 2-0-1 in pool, racked 10 runs in 3rd.  Haley Fagan was winning pitcher, Brianna Parker the loser.  Fury racked 12 hits, including home runs by Walker, Baird and Hooper, as well as doubles by Hammer, Walker and Thomas.  Walker, Baird and Hooper each had 3 rbi.

Top Performers

Hanna Winter, Pumas, and Kristen Streuett, Raiders,  lead all hitters with .778 batting avcrages.

Marissa Schwartz, Lauren Walker and Brittany Wlliams have 2 homers each.

Williams leads all hitters with 7 rbi.  Jordan Richwood leads all pitchers with 15 K.
