The Chicago Bandits take Game 1, edging Pride 4-3 in eight innings.

The Bandits took the lead in the 5th on Megan Wiggins 3-run double, and were one out away from winning in regulation when Andrea Duran jacked a 2-out homer to tie the game in the 7th.  Vicky Galindo, a stellar 3-3, scored the winning run top 8th on Amber Patton’s single.  Monica Abbott (8Ks) made the lead hold up, striking out the last two hitters for Pride.

The Championship is best two out of three.  The two Sunday games will be televised, ESPN, starting at 2pm, and, if needed, at 4pm.

The 2011 championship is a rematch of last year’s finale, again pitting the USSSA Pride against the Chicago Bandits.  Both eliminated their first round opponents, the NPF Diamonds and Akron Racers, in two games.

Top 1st:  Stacy May-Johnson and Amber Patton were out, but Alissa Goler drew a walk off Pride starting pitcher Cat Osterman, who struck out Megan Wiggins for the third out.  Bottom half:  Natasha Watley ground out to short.  Caitlin Lowe singled.  Monica Abbott fanned Jessica Mendoza.  Charlotte Morgan singled.  Francesca Enea grounded to short.  0-0.

Top 2nd:  Jamee Juarez lined out to 2nd.  Tammy Williams grounded to 2nd.  Shannon Doepking fanned.  Bottom half:  Ashley Charters opened with a single.  Kelly Kretschman took 1st on a balk, Charters to 2nd.  Megan Willis advances the runners with a groundout to 3rd.  Andrea Duran worked a 3-2 count, walked, loading the bases for Pride with one out.  Top of the Pride order; Watley reaches on an error, Charters and Kretschman score.  Lowe, runners on 2nd and 3rd, put out by the catcher, Doepking.  Mendoza flies out to center.  2-0 Pride.

Top 3rd:  Danielle Zynkowitz, leading off for the Bandits, strikes out swinging, Cat’s third.  Caitlin Lever singles, the first hit off  Osterman. May-Johnson grounds out to 1st.  Patton , at 3-1, draws the second walk off Osterman.  Goler strikes out, stranding two.  Bottom 3rd:  Morgan out, 2-3.  Enea struck out on four pitches.  Charters grounded to 2nd.

Top 4th: Wiggins opened the Bandits 4th; at 3-2, Wiggins walked, Cat’s third pass.  Juarez grounded to 3rd.  Williams out at 1st.  Doepking struck out.  Bottom 4tH:  Kretschman flied out to left.  Willis out at 1st.  Duran ground out to short.  Pride 2-0.

Top 5th:   Raplacing Zymkowitz, Vicky Galindo singles. Lever strikes out, Abbott’s second.  May-Johnson singles, runners at the corners.  Patton singles, bases loaded.  Goler struck out swinging.  Wiggins clears the bases with a double, the fifth hit off Osterman, three Bandits score, and lead 3-2.  Juarez struck out. Sarah Pauly relieved Osterman, who had given up 3 runs on 5 hits,walked 3 and struck out 7.  Bottom 5th:  now trailing 3-2,Pride led with Watley, who struck out.  Lowe lined to short. Mendoza  struck out.

Top 6th:  Williams flied out to left.   Doepking out, 9-3.  Galindo collects her second single.  Lever hit by pitch.  May-Johnson hit by pitch, loading the bases a second time for the Bandits.  Patton struck out, stranding three.  Bottom 6th:  Morgan out to pitcher.  Enea flied out to right.  Charters struck out, Pauly’s second K.

Top 7th:  Goler flied out to left.  Wiggins struck out.  Juarez doubled,  Williams grounded to short.  Bottom 7th:  Leading off for Pride, Kretschman struck out.  Willis flied out to right.  Duran, on a 1-2 count, jacks a solo home run to tie the score.  Jenn Salling, who replaced Watley in the leadoff spot, grounds out to short, sending the game into extra innings.

Top 8th: Bandits.  Doepking grounded to short.  Galindo singles, her third.  Lever sacrifices.  May-Johnson walks.  Runners at the corners, Patton singles, Galindo scores the go-ahead run, 4-3. Goler flies out to center, stranding 2.  Bottom 8th:  Once again Pride is faced with  a must-score-or-lose situation.  Leading off, Lowe flied to center.  Mendoza struck out.  Morgan struck out swinging to end the game,.

Abbott notched 8 Ks, while yielding 3 runs on 4 hits, walking 2.  Pauly gave up the one run, 4 hits, 1 walk, 3 Ks.
