Team Mizuno Stith 4, Bandits Conroy 2
WP Kaylee Carlson.  Mizuno scored four runs in 1st, rbi single by Palomino, rbi double by Wheaton, rbi single by Flores.  Two later Mizuno thrusts were nullified by Bandit double playsIf the ZBandits didn’t have Lilly, Conroy would have to invent her; one of many players who should have been at national team camp but was not invited.  Kennedy Beach pitched for the Bandits, both scoring on Lilley’s single in the 3rd.

Corona Angels Tyson 1, Sorcerer 0
Sorcerer was playing without long-time coach and mentor Phil Mumma; get well, Phil; the game needs your wisdom. Johanna Grauer pitched for Sorcerer; Alexis Osorio for the Angels, who scored when Lidria reached on an error and scored on a ground-rule double by White.

Texas Glory 3, TX Storm 0
Teams travelled a long way to meet in first game.  Sydney Littlejohn got the win for Glory, who would later surprise Mizuno Stith.  Schkade reached on an infield hit and scored on a passed ball in 3rd; Zimmer singled and scored to open the 4th; Lynch scored on a bases-loaded walk.  Storm reounded in losers bracket to defeat Finesse 9-1, and Lower South Liberty 4-3 before losing 8-2 to Ladyhawks.

Batbusters Haning 6, Wichita Mustangs 0
Taylor McQuillin pitched for BBH.  Rivera drove in 2 runs; Everett homered.

Nebraska Gold 4, Team North Florida 1
Expected strong showings from both bases on previous tournaments but both hit a rough patch in bracket play.  In this game, McGill started, relieved by McKinnon.  When the game ended, TNF had runners at 1st and 3rd, no outs but netted one run.  Katie Johnson pitched for Nebraska Gold (2-3, which was aggressive in every game, even when losing. Nebraska scored 4 runs in the 3rd aided by two errors.

Jersey Intensity 2, IL Chill 1
Allison Frei for Intensity.  Bottom 6th: yird 1-1, Severini walked, scored on a bunt.

Firecrackers Rico 7, USA Athletics 1
The A’s got their run to start the game on  homer by Eveland.  After that, the Firecrackers reached USA starter Washington. Tera Blanco went the distance.  Edier, Wester, Gonzales, scored back to back to take charge.

So Cal Athletics 4, Arizona Hotshots 2
Delanie Gourley for the A’s who got a 2-run homer by Snaer. McBride was one of 2 pitchers used by Arizona, who saw one rally wiprf out by a double play, but scored two in the next inning.

Corona Angels Tyson 3, Beverly Bandits 0 (pool)
Angels P: Miranda Viramontes.  Henderson, Gonzales, and Padilla scored.

NC Lightning 6, Jersey Intensity 3
Regan Green for Lightning; Jordan Weed and Allison Frei for Intensity.  At the point Spy watched, Lightning loaded bases, Runyon singled, 2 rbi.  (A problem of traversing field to field, seeing parts of games, Spy makes barely decipherable notes.  In some Jersey Intensity game, Alyssa Vanderveer jacked a powerful home run!)

Vienna Stars 6, So Cal Breakers 0 (pool)
Breakers P:  Brown and Buechler.  Stars P: Taylor Thorpe. Sherlund homer.  Other scores: Prince, Burks, Thorpe, Norton 2.

NJ Inferno 6, AZ Firecrackers 0  (pool)
Inferno scored four runs bottom 3rd; McCourt, Sewell, Smith, and #1

Lil Saints 7, Birmingham Thunderbolts 3 (pool)
Bolts P: Sarah Taylor. Tamara Statman pitched for Saints, who had runs scored by Ramirez, Gaffin, Zembik, among others, with rbi by Hallett and Hostettler.  While he has turned over the team to son Lance, enjoyed seeing Dick Dickson up and about and recalling days when his Phoenix friendly was THE tournament in Arizona.

So Cal Athletics 5, Gold Coast Hurricanes 2 (pool)
Courtney Mirabella and Sydney Matzko pitched for the GCH.  Hayley Copeland and Selina Taamilo pitched for the SCA.  Wallace had a double, 2 rbi and scored;  Romaine doubled, rbi and scored; Geer doubled and scored; Marquez singled, rbi; Vines also scored.

Mizuno Stith 7, East Cobb Bullets 1 (pool)
Kaylee Carlson pitched for Mizuno who were up 4-0 when Spy arrived.  Wheaton singled in 2 runs, and Flores rbi.  Nicole Bond pitched for ECB.  An enjoyable aspect of writing Spy for so many years is the number of former players who ride in the golf cart.  Always a pleasure to confer with Amanda Scarborough whom ESPN should move up in the chain.  Former ECB and NPF player Jessica Williams went for a short ride.

East Cobb Bullets 6, WA Ladyhawks 2 (pool)
Giddens, Walters and Show homered for ECB.  Bond and Barnhill pitched for ECB.

Team Mizuno Stith 3, Firecrackers Rico 0 (pool)
Ariana Jarvis for Mizuno; Michelle Floyd for Firecrackers.  Solid defensive plays by both teams, each notching a double play.  Lorenz led off 1st, reaching on error at 3rd, scoring on Palomino 2-out single.  In 5th, Palacios singled in a run; McLean beat out an infield hit, scored on error at short.

AZ Storm 10, Nebraska Gold 9 (9)
A barn burner.  Taylor Nowlin and Andy Wellins pitched for Storm, Kaylin Jablonski for Nebraska.  Storm held a 5-2 lead until Nebraska scored 3 runs top 6th.  One out, bottom 8th, Storm gained a 7-7 tie on Dtahm’s 2-run homer.  But, top 9th, Unzicher jacked a 2-run shot for a 9-7 Nebraska lead.  With Lewallen on as ITB, Storm loaded the bases in the bottom; Pierson walked; Madden reached on an error at short; a sac fly by Morris closed the gap to 9-8, Eirckson flied out, two down; Hampton’s single sent 2 runners home with the tying and winning runs.

East Cobb Bullets 7, AZ Storm 4
WP Samantha Show; LP Sarah Andrews.   Storm tied game at 3-all, top 4th, but the Bullets racked 4 runs in bottom on Show’s grand slam.

Texas Firecrackers.  Didn’t put a hurt on anyone, losing to Conroy’s Bandits 11-1, then being ousted 8-2 by Shockwaves.  But, if there were an award for the feistiest coaches at the corners, Connie May and Amanda Scarborough win by a length.

Spy likes the Manning Stadium at Bill Barber park; good seating all around, one of the better press boxes; still dislike the toilets.  Gave rides to lots of college coaches; a long hike from #1 to #8 for college coaches/scouts.  Just as bad: American lands at one end of Dulles, baggage claim at opposite end.  Lots of nice, courteous parents; couple of sorry sad sacks made people glad when their daughters teams lost.  The umpiring was generally good, but two were very asleep at the switch in the infield.

THE LEADERS
Batting average: Samantha Puentes Strile Zone .714
Home runs: Delaney Spaulding, Mizuno Stith, 5
RBI: Delaney Spaulding Mizuno Stith, 15

Wins: Delanie Gourley, So Cal athletics 5
Strikeouts: Delanie Gourley, So Cal Athletics 56
ERA: Kirsten Hostetler, Lil Saints 0.00

As Porky would say, that’s all folks.
