Jr. Women's National Team Improves to 7-0
Caguas, Puerto Rico - The U.S. Junior Women's team went 2-0 on the day defeating
Ecuador, 19-0, and Aruba, 18-0, at the 2006 II Jr. Women's Pan American
Championships. The team will face Antilles Holandesas at 4:00 PM tomorrow before
entering medal rounds on Friday.
The team hit an impressive 17 hits, handing Ecuador (1-5) a 19-0 loss in four
innings. Megan Elliott (Prince Frederick, MD) earned the win in the circle
striking out four of six batters faced. Donna Kerr (San Diego, Calif.) came in
to pitch the final two innings striking out all batters faced.
In her first appearance as designated player, Lindsey Sisk (Murrieta, Calif.),
led the way for the team going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs
scored. Centerfielder Katie Schroeder (Yorba Linda, Calif.) was responsible for
a team-high four RBI, going 2-for-2 with one run scored. Rounding out the team
leaders was K'Lee Arredondo (Tempe, Ariz.) who scored a team-high four runs.
Ashley Hansen (Chandler, Ariz.), Arredondo, Bianca Mejia (Sylmar, Calif.) and
Alissa Haber (Newark, Calif.) each contributed two hits. Also key for the win
was Rosey Neill (Laguna Hills, Calif.) who hit her first homerun as a member of
the National team for three RBI.
The offense continued its explosive efforts into the second game of the day, an
18-0 victory over Aruba (1-6). Six of the team's starting lineup registered two
or more hits including Monica Harrison (Garden Grove, Calif.) and Meijia who
both went 4-for-4, scoring four runs and three runs, respectively. Hansen
contributed a team-high three RBI with two runs scored with Neill scoring three
runs with two RBI. Sisk worked the first two innings, earning her first win of
the tournament. Kenzie Fowler (Tucson, Ariz.) came in for the final two innings,
striking out five of six batters faced.
