Arizona, UCLA Gain Momentum on No. 1 Washington in ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The University of Washington (7-1) remains the top team in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 through the second week of action announced today by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America. The Huskies dropped their first game of the season on Friday, falling 7-4 to Utah State at the Campbell Cartier Classic in San Diego, Calif., which cost the team seven top votes to No. 2 Arizona (4)and No. 3 UCLA (3).

Arizona (7-1) held steady at the No. 2 position for the second straight week after splitting a home stand with the Missouri Tigers (3-2), who remain at No. 5 for a second consecutive week. The Wildcats took the first game at home in Tucson, Ariz., 5-0 but dropped the second 10-5.

The UCLA Bruins (8-1) jumped a notch to No. 3 after four run-rule victories and another 7-2 performance over Cal State Northridge in the Stacy Winsberg Memorial tournament. UCLA’s only loss of the season came earlier this year to No. 4 Michigan (6-2). The Wolverines went 4-1 over the weekend at the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La., topping No. 15 LSU (7-4) 2-0 but losing 2-1 to Virginia.
