Saturday Game Notes
Corona Angels 1, Lil Saints 1. Krystal Heinle and Aleah Macon for the Angels.
Cruisers 1, American Pastime 1. Melissa Dykema for the Cruisers, Andrea Padilla for Pastime. The Cruisers had the game won, on an rbi by Bernice Masaniai, until the last at bat. Crystal Carwile doubled and scored the tying run on a hit by Melissa Rodriguez.
NM Sundancers 6, So Cal Athletics 5. An exciting game with frequent lead changes saw the SCA’s go up 2-0 on a two-run single by Melissa Marinacci. The Sundancers respo0nded with 5 runs. Antoinette Whiting walked; Vanessa Valdez and Cassidy Nee beat out infield rollers, one run scoring; Kelly Caldwell doubled in a run; Katrina Kirby singled in a run; and Erin Brandow walked to load the bases. Two more scored, the fifth on an infield hit by Scottie Jo Turcotte. Down 5-2, the SCA’s rallied. Laura Briones doubled; she, Erin Ota and Marinacci scored to tie the game. But Whiting walked; with one out, Caldwell dropped a Texas Leaguer over the infield; Kirby moved both runners with a sacrifice; Whiting scored the winner on a passed ball. With walks to Brandow and Valdez, the inning ended with the bases loaded with Sundancers.
Firecrackers 9, Austin Storm 1. The Firecrackers were flat in an earlier loss to the Beach Girls, but they unleashed a salvo against the Texans. Sara Akamine had a no hitter and a run-rule until the 5th. Firecracker hits: Molly Bausher; Emily Troup (single and double); Michelle Schroeder; Britt Boyer (2 hits); Chris Ramos; Megan Langenfeld (2 hits); K’Lee Arredondo (2 hits). Brittany Cantu got the Austin hit and scored in the bottom of the 5th. Akamine had 7 Ks. Ramos starred at 3rd.
Team New Jersey 3, Cruisers 1. Melissa Hodge got the win over Stacey Nelson. Skillful base running by Amanda Winn and Maddy Coon led to their deciding scores.
Batbusters GH(1) 2, So Cal Athletics 2. The Batbusters Mandy Pongs vs the SCA’s Monica Alnes. To create the tie the A’s Ashley Ellis drove in Stephanie Tam, and Melissa Marinacci scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Batbusters GH(1) 1, Team New Jersey 1. TNJ led on a mighty homer by Baylor-bound Brette Reagan. The TNJ is a fall ball team comprised of stars from other teams. For this game, Shamrock Megan Elliott pitched to catcher Ciera Jones, once a Shamrock and now with the Vienna VA Stars (another Shamrock, Gina Mondo, tripled in an earlier game). TNJ would put two on late in the game on a Jones single and Vicki Kavitsky infield hit, but could not score. The Batbusters broke through in the end. Brittany LaStrapes reached on an error; Danielle Kinley walked; TNJ brought in Melissa Hodge to pitch; the tying run scoring on Mandy Pong’s groundout.
Batbusters GH(1) 6, Sundancers 1. Amanda Williams bested Cassidy Nee.
Beach Girls 1, Firecrackers 0. Unsigned senior Katie McNamara took the measure of the Firecrackers for the second weekend in a row. Darcy Rutherford supplied the offense.
Sunday Game Notes
Explosion 4, Lil Saints 0. The 16U ASA national champions, the Explosion showed that they are ready to step up, despite their youth. Six in the class of 2006; and six 07’s, these kids swing from the knob, and they’re fun to watch. Leading 1-0 in the top of the 3rd, Camille Ketsdever walked; Megan Bush singled; Jill Schaefer hit an rbi single; Janelle Zuniga walked to loads the bases and Heather Gerritee singled in the fourth run.
