Utah State broke a 2-2 tie with 5 runs off reliever Jenna Clifton in the 4th.  Huskies loaded bases with one out, top 7th, trailing 7-4.  Lawrie popped to short.  Nikki Williams, who had 3 rbi to this point, faced reliever Mandy Harmon, and ground into a force at 3rd to end the game.  Utah State pounded out 12 hits.  Utah State loaded bases in 4th; Evans singled in a run, but runs scored on wild pitch and error; with two out, Cancelosi singled in three runs.  The Huskies started the game with two runs on Williams double.  Utah State answered in the bottom, on Kaneshiro’s 2-run homer.  Williams doubled in another UW run top 6th, Wright tripled in the 7th, scored on McWherter’s single.

The defending national champions, stung by an upset by unranked Utah State, racked 9 hits and were never threatened.  Lawrie settled her team down with a first inning 2-run homer.  Stenson added an rbi in the 2nd.  The Huskies pulled away with three in the 3rd, including back-to-back doubles by Salling nad Lawrie; another run scored on Fagaly’s rbi and a third on a wild pitch.  Cobb relieved Matsumoto.  Salling singled and scored on another Lawrie double in the 4th.  UW reached run-rule in the 5th when Fleischman scored on Pohlman’s triple.
