#1 Arizona State 5 Oregon State 0  WP Katie Burkhart  1H LP Dyer

ASU scored bottom of 4th on Donnenwirth's two-out solo home run.  In the 6th, Cochran doubled and scored on Donnenwirth's single.  Cowles belted a 2-run homer.  Draper relieved Dyer.  Rogers scored on Urfer's single, 5-0 ASU.  Working on a one-hitter into the top of the 7th, Ford reached on an error and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch.  Paige Lowe bunted back to Burkhart, and Ford scored on an errant throw.  Burkhart struck out the last batter to preserve the one-hitter.

#4 UCLA 7 #22 California 2.  WP Megan Langenfeld 4H  LP Marissa Drewery

Bruins scored six of seven runs with two outs.  In 1st, Kamekona scored on Langenfeld rbi.  UCLA scored 6 runs in 4th. J Schroeder rbi; Colburn 2 rbi; Langenfeld 2 rbi.  Racklin and Arioto scored for Cal in bottom 6th.  UCLA 39-5, 11-2.  Cal 36-19, 4-9.`

#5 Michigan 10, Michigan State 0 (5).  WP Nikki Nemitz.  4H.  LP Shae Bass

Wolverines remain tied with Northwestern for Big 10 lead (42-4, 14-1) Spartans drop to 25-23, 7-8.  Samantha Findlay homered to lead off the Michigan 2nd.  Bausher, Viefhaus and Nemitz had rbi’s in the 4-run 3rd during which Confer relieved Bass.  In the 5th, Bausher scored on a fielder’s choice.  Hair relieved Confer.  Nemitz jacked a grand slam home run.

#7 Stanford 2, #21 Washington 1 (10) WP Missy Penna  10K  LP Aleah Macon 9K

Stanford scored a run in the bottom of 4th when Smith drew a bases-loaded walk.  UW tied in the 7th; McWherter singled and scored on Blake's sac rbi.  In the 10th, Beardman and Haber singled with one out.  With two out,  Howe walked, loading the bases.  Neill worked a 3-2 count, then walked, forcing in the winning run. Stanford 42-8.  UW 25-17-1.

 

Oregon 2, #8 Arizona 1 WP Alyssa Cook.  LP Taryne Mowatt.

Balko walked to open the Wildcat 4th; pinch runner Rodriguez scored on Duran's double.  In the 6th, Neena Bryant reached on an error and scored on an error, but the Ducks left two on.  Jenkins scored on Bryant's single top of 7th, 2-1 Oregon.  Bottom 7th, one out, Banister reached on error at 2nd.; Acton to run. Chambers walked.  Balko struck out. Schutzler walked, loading the bases with Wildcats. Duran, who had driven in the UofA run, popped to short, giving the Ducks one of their biggest conference wins this season.  Arizona made 3 errors, Oregon 2. 

#11 Fresno State 4, #19 Hawai'i 3

The No. 10 ranked Fresno State softball team improved to 43-8 on the year and 9-3 in WAC play with a 4-3 win over No. 24 Hawai'i Friday night at Bulldog Diamond. The loss drops the Rainbow Wahine to 33-15 overall and 7-5 in the WAC

 

#12 Northwestern 1, Penn State 0 (14) WP Lauren Delaney 4H, 18K LP Ashley Esparza

Great endurance by both pitchers, who went the distance.  Wildcats scored in top of 14th; Williams led off with double; and Batts doubled her home.  Delaney’s 13th shutout.  NU 30-10, 14-1.  Penn State 32-18, 5-8.

#20 San Diego State 13 Utah 3 (5)   WP Samantha Beasley 3H  LP Brittany Parker

Teams were tied for conference lead until Aztecs blew Utes away with 6 runs in 2nd and 7 runs in 3rd.  First three SDSU runs were scored on two bases-loaded walks and wild pitch.  Squire relieved Parker.  Boardman drove in Foster for a Ute run in the bottom half. In 3rd, Wells, McCorkle and Flores (2) hit rbi’s, then Beasley belted a 3-run homer.  Utah scored single runs in the 4th and 5th.  SDSU 37-14, 9-4.  Utah 25-21, 8-5.

#25 Nevada sweeps Louisiana Tech 8-7, 12-2

 RENO, Nev. – The Nevada softball team reeled off its fifth and sixth straight victories with a doubleheader sweep over Louisiana Tech on Friday at Hixson Park. Vanessa Briones clubbed two home runs and Kelsey Starr homered and drove in five as Nevada improved to 34-14 overall and 12-2 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Lady Techsters fell to 29-25 and 7-9 in the WAC.

Nevada won game one 8-7 behind Starr’s five RBI performance and a complete game effort from Kate Holverson, who improved to 17-5 overall and 7-0 in WAC games. Starr went 3-for-3, including a three-run home run. Briones continued her torrid hitting as she went 3-for-4 with three runs and RBI, including a home run. Nevada had 14 hits in the game. Holverson struck out eight and walked just one. She gave up seven runs but only two were earned.

In game two, Nevada exploded for 16 hits in the 12-2 victory in five innings. The Wolf Pack blasted four home runs, including another one from Briones, who is now batting .486 with four homers and 14 RBI in WAC play. Brittany Puzey, Sam Bias and Danielle Patrick also homered for the Pack. Nevada’s first four hitters – Noelle Micka, Puzey, Briones and Britton Murdock – combined to go 9-for-13 with seven RBI and eight runs in the game. Jordan McPherson started and got the victory. She struck out eight and walked just one in improving to 12-9 on the year.

Nevada and Louisiana Tech will conclude the three-game series with a single game Saturday at Hixson Park. The game is Senior Day as Nevada will honor its five seniors before the game.
