#3 Alabama sweeps Georgia
Alabama tied the school record for Southeastern Conference wins with its 25th league victory of the season as the Crimson Tide swept Georgia, 12-3 and 10-1, on Saturday afternoon at the UGA Softball Complex. With two five-inning run-rule wins, the Crimson Tide improved to 49-4 on the season and 25-2 in SEC action. Georgia falls to 42-21 overall and 13-14 in league play. “We really swung the bat well today,” Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy said. “We came out aggressive and it really translated into runs on the scoreboard. Then you throw in grand slams from Jordan (Praytor) and Kelley (Montalvo) and that really made it a great day.” The Crimson Tide goes for the sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the game televised on Fox Sports with Bernie Guenther calling the action and Cheri Kempf with analyst.
Game 1: Alabama 12, Georgia 3
Alabama scored 12 runs on eight hits highlighted by Jordan Praytor’s fifth-inning grand slam as the top-ranked Crimson Tide rolled to a 12-3 win over Georgia in the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday at the UGA Softball Complex. The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning when senior catcher Melissa Wood led off with her 10th home run of the season to straight-away center field – it was the only hit allowed by Dunne in the game. Alabama got that run back in the third inning when Morgan’s leadoff double came around to score on an attempted double steal. The Tide then punched in two more runs in the fourth inning on Morgan’s two RBI single up the middle to extend the lead to 8-1. Praytor then capped the win for Alabama with her first career grand slam in the fifth inning. Georgia plated two runs on four this – two infield singles – in the fifth inning.

Michigan collected 10 hits -- its 15th double-digit hit tally of the season -- but struggled to score, leaving 10 stranded, including seven in extra innings. #8 Stanford 4 Oregon State 2 WP Missy Penna 11K 4H LP Kelly Dyer
In a homerun derby at the OSU Softball Complex in Corvallis, Ore., junior Maddy Coon belted two of the games' combined five homeruns and lifted the Stanford softball team to a 4-2 win over Oregon State today. Junior pitcher Missy Penna struck out 11 to carry the Cardinal on the defensive end, and Stanford clinched the series with the Beavers for the eighth time in the last nine years. Junior pitcher Missy Penna (32-9) fanned 11 in her second complete game of the weekend and 15th complete game of Pac-10 play. The Cardinal ace is now within ten K's of Dana Sorensen's single-season strikeout record (358). Coon belted two homers and accounted for three of Stanford's four RBI. Stanford outhit Oregon State, 7-4.
All-American second baseman Cambria Miranda put Oregon State on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Miranda connected on Penna's very first offering and drilled it over the left field fence. In the top of the second, Cardinal senior Michelle Smith answered by drilling her eighth homerun of the year to nearly the exact spot that Miranda hit hers. Smith who now has 39 career homeruns, needs just one more to become the second player in school history to hit 40 career homers. Another Cardinal homer, the first of two by Coon, gave Stanford the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Senior Erin Howe beat out a well-placed grounder to second base, and the Cardinal shortstop tagged the first pitch she saw deep over the left field wall to give the Cardinal a 3-1 lead. In the top of the sixth, Coon came to the plate again and bashed her second homerun of the game to left center. With homers on two consecutive at bats, the junior registered the first multi-homerun game of her career and the 30th all-time by a Stanford player. The second blast was Coon's eighth of the year, and the 21st of her Stanford career. In the bottom of the seventh, the Beavers' first baseman, DeAnn Young, ripped the fifth homerun of the afternoon to left field to bring OSU within two. Penna and the Cardinal defense held.
The Cardinal will play the final game of the series with the Beavers tomorrow at noon at OSU Softball Complex in Corvallis. Stanford will be looking to sweep the three-game series' with both Oregon schools in the same season for the first time in school history. Stanford 44-10, 9-8 Pac !0. Oregon State 26-28, 4-13 Pac 10.

Nevada improved to 40-14 overall and finished the WAC with a 16-2 record. The Pack ran its winning streak to 12 straight games, the longest streak in program history.

The Gamecocks need two wins to qualify for the SEC tournament, but their strong rally against the Tigers fell short. In the top of the 1st, Stein walked and Duhon hit a 2-run home run. Three Tiger runs in the 3rd on a double by Mitchell and a 2-run double by Duhon seemed a safe lead for Trahan. But, in the bottom of 6th, Fulmer singled with one out and advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on Payne's double. Walker was hit by a pitch, and Mendes singled in two runs, which brought on Fail. Semento was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with one out. But, Fail struck out the last two batters. LSU 40-14, 16-10 SEC. South Carolina 20-25, 7-17 SEC.

#19 San Diego State 2, New Mexico 1 WP Christina Ross
The No. 19/21 San Diego State softball team won its third consecutive one-run game with a 2-1 victory over New Mexico Saturday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs are now 40-15 overall and first in the Mountain West Conference with a 12-5 record, ½ games up on Brigham Young (11-5).
SDSU became just the third 40-win team in school history and the first since the 2002 season. The 2008 squad is now just one win shy of tying the 2001 and 2002 team's school-record total of 41.
San Diego State scored both of its runs in the bottom of the third inning. Freshman Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a fielding error by the New Mexico (23-23, 5-11 MWC) pitcher, which also allowed sophomore Brittany Knudsen (San Diego, Calif./Escondido HS) to reach safely. Senor Tamani Wells (Concord, Calif.) singled through the middle to load the bases with no outs.
The Aztecs' two leading run-producers, junior Tonye McCorkle (Santa Ana Heights, Calif.) and junior Erin Floros (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS), each cashed in with their 30th and 36th RBI, respectively. McCorkle singled up the middle to score Wisneski and Floros followed with a hard shot to the Lobo shortstop Tianna George, who bobbled the ball and was unable to make a play to first. Knudsen would score on the play giving SDSU the early 2-0 advantage.
New Mexico came back with a run of its own in the fourth as Gabriella Parra's single up the middle scored Erin Brandow.
The one run was all that Aztec senior Christina Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif.) would allow. Ross gave up five hits and five walks over seven innings, while striking out five to improve to 27-12 on the season.
Wells had two of SDSU's four hits, while McCorkle and Floros each added singles.
San Diego State plays host to the Lobos once again at 1 p.m. Sunday. It will be the final regular season home game for Aztec seniors Megan McDonald (Glendale, Ariz.), Ross and Wells. Each will be honored in a special post-game ceremony.
