Pac-10

Oregon State 5, UCLA 3  WP Kelly Dyer.  LP Megan Langenfeld

Freshman GiOnna DiSalvatore went 3-for-4 to record her team-leading 18th multiple-hit game of the season, but the third-ranked Bruins were stunned by Oregon State on Friday, falling 5-3 at the OSU Softball Complex. The Bruins fall to 44-7 overall and 16-4 in league play, while the Beavers improve to 28-30 and 6-14 in Pac-10 action.  Junior Amanda Kamekona extended her hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the seventh. The Bruins had 10 hits, but stranded 10 on base. All three Bruin pitchers saw action in the circle, with senior Anjelica Selden tossing the last 1 2/3 scoreless innings and giving up two hits while striking out a batter.

Oregon State jumped out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the first. Paige Lowe singled to center to start things off and Dani Chisholm reached on an error. Cambria Miranda then singled to left to plate Lowe and make it 1-0. Another single to left, this time by Audrey Roderfeld, scored Chisholm to put the Beavers up 2-0. The Bruins cut the lead in half with a run in the second thanks to an Oregon State error. With one out, DiSalvatore doubled to center. One out later, freshman Monica Harrison lifted a fly ball to right, but it dropped in and out of the glove of Erin Guzy, allowing DiSalvatore to score to make it 2-1. In the fourth, each team left the bases loaded. For the Bruins, sophomore Megan Langenfeld was hit by a pitch, DiSalvatore singled to right and freshman Samantha Camuso walked. However the next three batters grounded out to keep it a 2-1 game. In the bottom of the inning, a single by Paige Lowe, an intentional walk to Miranda and a hit by pitch of Roderfeld loaded them up for the Beavers, but Langenfeld retired Stefanie Ewing on a ground out to end the threat.

UCLA evened things in the fifth. Freshman Katie Schroeder led off with an infield single to second and was sacrificed to second by senior Krista Colburn. One out later, Langenfeld cashed in Schroeder on a double to the left-center field gap to knot the game at two. The Beavers took the lead back though in the bottom of the inning. Guzy singled to right and was moved to second on a sacrifice by DeAnn Young. Alana Ford was then hit by a pitch and McKenna Lowe singled to third to load the bases for Paige Lowe, who singled to left to bring in Guzy and Ford to put Oregon State back on top 4-2. The Beavers made it 5-2 when Chisholm lifted a scoring fly ball to right to plate McKenna Lowe.

The Bruins had a chance at tying the game in the seventh. With one out, Kamekona singled to right and moved to second on a grounder by Langenfeld.  DiSalvatore then singled up the middle to plate Kamekona to make it 5-3. Camuso followed with another single, but Kelly Dyer retired Harrison on a fly out to right to end the game.

Dyer allowed three runs (two earned), 10 hits and one walk with one strikeout in seven innings. Guzy and Paige Lowe each had three-hit contests for the Beavers.

Washington sweeps Oregon 5-2, 7-1

Game 1. Aleah Macon struck out 12 and held Oregon to three hits as No. 24 Washington broke a five-game losing streak with a 5-2 win on Friday in the first game of a Pac-10 doubleheader. Macon matched her career-high in strikeouts, which she had against both Florida State and Stanford earlier this season. It was the ninth time this year she has reached double-digits in strikeouts. The freshman right-hander walked four and allowed two earned runs to improve to 16-14. Oregon (32-26, 4-15 Pac-10) went up 2-0 in the third inning on a two-run home run by Neena Bryant to straight-away centerfield. The Huskies (27-22-1, 6-13 Pac-10) finally broke through in the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1. With Alicia Blake on first base after singling through the right side, Ashlyn Watson hit a ground ball to UO third baseman Joanna Gail and Gail threw to second to force out Blake. Watson beat out the throw from second baseman Cortney Kivett to avoid the double play, but ended up taking second base after catching the Ducks with their guard down. Watson made a heads-up play by running to second base as Ducks pitcher Alicia Cook got the ball back from first baseman Monique Fuiava and Cook didn't immediately return to the circle, which would have resulted in a dead ball. The play paid off for the Huskies as Watson moved up to third base on a groundout by Jace Williams and then scored on a single by Morgan Stuart. Washington tacked on four more runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. With one out, Amanda Fleischman got on via an infield single, Bailey Stenson reached on a throwing error and Marnie Koziol followed with another infield single that brought home Fleischman from third.
Blake then doubled off the centerfield fence to score Stenson, and Koziol scored as well when Neena Bryant's throw from centerfield sailed into the Oregon dugout. Blake moved up to third on the error and eventually scored when Watson singled to left center. Blake led the Huskies at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Fleischman added a stolen base, her 16th of the year. Alicia Cook (15-12) took the loss for Oregon, giving up six hits, five earned runs and two walks. Lovena Chaput went 2-for-3 for the Ducks.

Game 2  Senior Caitlin Noble pitched a two-hitter and Morgan Stuart went 3-for-4 to lift No. 24 Washington past Oregon, 7-1, in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Howe Field. The Huskies picked up a 5-2 win in the first game and are now 28-22-1 and 7-13 in the Pac-10. On her 22nd birthday, Noble sat the Ducks down in order in each of the first three innings and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Noble struck out four, walked just one and allowed one earned run to improve to 12-8.  The Huskies had a 3-0 lead going into the sixth when Oregon's Ashley Kivett led off with a home run to left field to cut the Huskies lead to 3-1. Washington broke the game open with four runs in the top of the seventh on four hits, including three straight doubles.  With one out, Alicia Blake doubled to left centerfield to plate Marnie Koziol from second, and then Ashlyn Watson followed with a double to left center to bring around Blake. A double by Jace Williams to deep centerfield scored Watson before Stuart hit a long single off the top of the fence in left center to score Williams and put Washington up 7-1. The Huskies tallied 11 hits off of two Oregon pitchers. It was their highest hit total in conference play this season. Two of Stuart's three hits were doubles, Blake was 2-for-3 after going 2-for-2 in the first game, and Watson was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Melissa Rice (11-11) took the loss for Oregon after giving up six hits, three runs, and two walks in four innings of work. All three of Rice's runs were earned. Brittany Rumfelt pitched the final three innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits and a walk.

The two teams finish up the season series with a 1:30 p.m. game tomorrow that will air on Fox Sports Northwest.

Notes: Washington has won five in a row over Oregon and has a 41-13 lead all-time in the series ... The Huskies improved to 10-2 against Oregon under head coach Heather Tarr ... Blake and Williams both have 12 doubles, which leads the team ... Koziol had a stolen base in the seventh inning, giving her a team-best 22.

No. 1 seed and 12th-ranked Northwestern exploded for 12 runs -- including a seven-run fourth inning -- against Minnesota Friday in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament at Sharon J. Drysdale Field, run-ruling the Gophers in five innings, 12-0 (5). Northwestern advances to the championship game for the fourth time in the last six seasons with its victory. NU will face No. 3 seed Iowa after the Hawkeyes also run-ruled both of their previous two opponents at the Tournament. Iowa bested No. 6 seed Illinois, 9-1, and No. 7 seed Michigan State, 13-4, on Friday, both in five-inning fashion. NU opened the tournament with a five-inning, 8-0 victory over Ohio State Thursday. Combined with NU's eight-run fourth frame against the No. 8 seed Buckeyes Thursday in the quarterfinals, the Wildcats have put 15 runs on the board in their two fourth inning at-bats in the Tournament. The win improves the Wildcats to 36-13 overall on the year, while the Golden Gophers now are 29-16 on the season after their loss.

In the bottom of the first inning, Tammy Williams and Michelle Batts reached base on one-out hit by pitches by Minnesota starter Briana Hassett, but the Golden Gophers' ace was able to get out of trouble with no damage done. The Wildcats broke through for a pair of runs against Hassett one frame later. With one out, freshman Kelly Quinn  drew a walk before moving to second when classmate Robin Thompson beat out a bunt single. Another walk to senior Darcy Sengewald loaded the bases before freshman Jordan Wheeler chopped a comebacker to Hassett. The Gopher fumbled it as she went to throw, allowing Quinn to slide home safely on the error to give NU a 1-0 lead. One out later, Batts drew a four-pitch walk to force Thompson home and extend that cushion to two, 2-0, before Minnesota ended the scoring.  Erin Dyer drew a leadoff walk in the 3rd before being replaced at first by sophomore Aly Euler. A walk to Kelly Dyer following an Euler steal put two runners on, with both 'Cats then moving up on a wild pitch.. Quinn followed with a line drive double down the left field line, sending both Euler and Kelly Dyer around to score. Thompson then laid down a beautiful bunt that she beat to the bag for a single, with the throw to first from the catcher hitting Thompson and ricocheting away to allow Quinn to come around and score while Thompson moved to second on the throwing miscue.

Before the bottom of the fourth, Minnesota replaced Hassett (21-8) in the circle with Katie Dalen. On the first pitch Dalen threw, Batts crushed an opposite-field home run off the side of Welsh-Ryan Arena to make the score 6-0. The blast was Batts' 12th of the season, good for second place on the squad.  Sophomore Nicole Pauly then served a single into right before moving to second on Erin Dyer's second base on balls of the game. A Dalen wild pitch moved both runners up a bag, then one out later a walk to Quinn loaded the bases.  Thompson followed with a ball into right that should have been an RBI single, but Pauly at third held for the possible tag should the hit be caught, but it fell and Pauly was thrown out at the plate for the second out of the inning.  Sengewald then sent a seeing-eye single through the right side of the infield to send Erin Dyer home before pinch hitter Emily Haug got a walk to force in Quinn and push the game into run-rule territory, 8-0. Minnesota then re-entered Hassett into the circle in favor of Dalen.  Williams was hit in the head with a pitch to send Thompson home, then Batts cleared the bases with a single into center to give Northwestern a 12-0 lead before the frame finally came to a conclusion.

Delaney earned the win to improve to 33-8 on the season, tying the Northwestern single-season wins record shared by All-Americans Lisa Ishikawa (1984) and Eileen Canney (2007). Delaney's shutout was her 15th of the season; she allowed two hits and no walks with eight strikeouts.
Batts was a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBIs, four of them coming in two plate appearances in the fourth inning. Thompson also had a pair of hits and scored twice, while Quinn drove in two and scored three times.

The No. 1 Florida Softball team (61-2) advanced to the Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship game with a 6-1 win over the No. 14 Tennessee Lady Vols (47-14) on Friday evening in Baton Rouge, La.

Six of the nine batters in the Gator lineup recorded hits on the night, but were led by a 3-for-4 performance from lead off batter junior Kim Waleszonia (Fontana, Calif.). She scored two runs and recorded two RBI and a double on the day. The Gators were also helped with eight walks from the Tennessee pitching staff, including two each to freshmen Aja Paculba (Wildomar, Calif.) and Megan Bush (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) and junior Ali Gardiner (Waccabuc, N.Y.).

Junior Stacey Nelson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) improved her record to 39-2 on the year with the complete game win. She scattered four Tennessee hits, while walking three and striking out five. She is now just six strikeouts from being the first Gator pitcher to record 300 or more strikeouts in a season. Rhodes took the loss for Tennessee to move to 20-9 on the season

Game 6  W3  #2  Alabama  7  W4  #3  LSU 4

WP Charlotte Morgan.  LP Cody Trahan  SV Kelsi Dunne

Alabama got home runs from Charlotte Morgan and Whitney Larsen and a three-run seventh inning to knock off LSU 7-4 at Tiger Park on Friday night to advance to the SEC Championship Game. The second-seeded Crimson Tide (51-5) will take on top-seed Florida (61-2) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. on Fox Sports. The Gators have not lost since dropping the opening game of a doubleheader on March 12 to the Tide in Tuscaloosa. UF has won 34 straight games.  Morgan (15-2) earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts. She also went 1 for 1 at the plate with a two-run home run in the third inning and three walks, including two intentional passes. Kelsi Dunne earned her fourth save of the season, pitching the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts, including the final out of the sixth and seventh inning. Jordan Praytor paced the Tide’s eight-hit attack, going 3 for 3 with a RBI double. Dani Woods and Larsen also had RBI for Alabama.  Cody Trahan (18-5) started in the circle and lasted 2.2 innings before being lifted in place of Tiffany Garcia. Garcia allowed five runs – four earned – on four this with five walks.

LSU got to Morgan in the top of the third inning on Shannon Stein’s two-strike RBI single to right field. Jazz Jackson came around to score on the play after drawing a one-out walk. Morgan worked out of a two-on, one-out jam by getting Rachel Mitchell to ground back to the pitcher and Quinlan Duhon to strikeout. Morgan would pick herself up in the bottom half of the inning with a towering two-run home run to straight-away center field that put the Crimson Tide on top, 2-1. It was her 16th home run of the season and RBI 67 and 68.

The Tide extended the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning on Larsen’s solo home run down the left field line. It was Larsen’s eighth home run of the season and 32nd RBI. LSU gave Alabama a little help later in the fourth inning as center fielder Rachel Mitchell dropped a routine fly ball with two outs that allowed the inning to continue and Praytor to score from second base for a 4-1 lead.

Duhon, who had a big weekend against the Tide earlier in the season, continued to cause Alabama trouble in the sixth inning tonight with a massive solo home run to left field. With two outs in the inning, Erika Sluss cut the lead one run a 4-3 with a full-count single to left field. Morgan hit the next batter to put runners on first and second base and that would end her night. Dunne came on and struck out the next batter swinging on three pitches. As it has done all season the Alabama offense struck right back as Brittany Rogers led off the inning with a single to center field that extended her hitting streak to nine games. Praytor then delivered a RBI double into the left-center field gap for her third hit of the night. Morgan was then intentionally walked for the second time in the game and Kelley Montalvo drew a conventional walk to load the bases. LSU would the make a pitching change, replacing Garcia with rarely used Casey Faile. Woods singled to right field to plate a run with the Tide’s seventh run scoring on a wild pitch.
