BATBUSTERS WINTER TOURNAMENT

SPY RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING REPORT FROM Brownlee, the field coordinator

Over this past weekend (Dec 2-3, 2006) the winter tournament held by OC Batbusters in Calfornia revealed a lot of promise and talent for the 2009 garduating class now in the 16U Div. The tournament featured 8 strong teams whose talent was so impressive we saw numerous 18u Gold coaches wondering around looking at these young players.  Congratulations to Victory (Hernandez) who beat OC Batbusters (Myers) 4-3 to take the tournament Title.

Most impressive of the 2009's observed appeared to be the young pitchers from OC Batbusters (2), Victory (1), Minor's Gold (3), American Pastime (1), Corona Angels (2), and Crunch (1). These appear to be the cream of this pitching class and no doubt impressed those looking on.  This group will no doubt be those we will want to keep track of as the year goes on and beyond.  Also of note were 3 catchers (Minor's Gold, Victory and Crunch) whose quality made even some of the coaches from the various teams playing providing compliments on their impressive play.

Best games:  Victory (Hernandez)  vs  OC Batbusters (Myers).    Victory won 4-3 in a well fought out game on both sides.  OC Batbusters (Myers) vs Minor's Gold (Lena).  OC Batbusters won 1-0 in a nail biting ending of a great pitching duel.

The assessments are those written by Brownlee- Field Coordinator

NEITHER RED NOR BLUE

From time to time, readers write with conclusions that I am a conservative Republican. I decided the next time I get a note – and they have all been polite – I would explain.  Fact is that I enrolled as a Democrat in 1956 hoping to support John F Kennedy.  I was an independent after his assassination, but had to enroll Republican from 1967-69 as a Rockefeller appointee.  Since 1970, I have not registered with either party.  More, I invariably split my ballot.  Admittedly, I voted against Kerry and Webb, for personal reasons unrelated to party.  That said, if Mark Warner were still in the running for President, I would be inclined his way.  Now, I am closely watching Obama to see if he makes the grade.  I like to think of myself as a centrist, and cynic.
