FLORIDA UNANIMOUS IN ASA POLL
Florida Unanimous at No. 1
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – For the first time this season, one team is unanimously No. 1 as Florida (62-2) earned 20 first-place votes on the way to the top ranking in the nation according to the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 Collegiate Poll announced today by the Amateur Softball Association. The Gators, with only one SEC loss, won the SEC Tournament just a week out of being crowned the SEC regular season Champions.
Florida went 3-0 during the tournament including wins over then No.14 Tennessee, 6-1, and then No.4 Alabama, 4-1 to win their first-ever SEC Tournament title. Texas A&M (49-7) jumped into the top five, switching places with No.6 Michigan, after they clinched the Big 12 Tournament with a 3-0 record. Michigan went one and out at the Big Ten Tournament with a 2-1 loss to Michigan State after being named Co-Champions of the Big Ten regular season title.
No. 2 Arizona State (56-5) also made history as they clinched their first-ever Pac-10 Championship with a 5-2 victory over #25 California (40-21). ASU went 2-1 on the week including opening up play with a 2-1 loss to then No. 8 Stanford.
No. 10 Northwestern (37-13), No. 17 Virginia Tech (44-15), No. 18 ULL (46-12), No. 21 UMass (39-11) and No. 23 DePaul (48-16) round out the teams in the Top 25 who won their Conference Tournaments, earning an automatic NCAA regional bid.
This is the last regular season poll of the year. The final poll of the year will be released June 10 after the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
