A NEW YEAR’S WISH FOR ASA

I may not attend the JO Workshop in February because of tournament conflicts.  I know that ASA, having won approval to move Gold to OKC, is not likely to go to an every other year format, as some travel ball coaches would like.  There is every reason to believe that ASA will not tamper with the college player issue, or, permit metal cleats, or move the pitching rubber for Gold back to 43 feet.  But, I do hope ASA will come down, strongly and unequivocally, in favor of making tournaments complete championship rounds on the field when national berths are at stake.  I do hope they will eliminate chin straps, now that helmet face guards are mandatory.  I do hope they will crack down on national tournament directors with regard to ASA mandates on web sites, etc.  There is no excuse in this computer age for tournaments not to have a complete college coaches guide; a well-maintained leader board; a frequently updated web site.  They make enough money off these kids; it’s time to put some back.

ATLANTIC COAST JO TOURNAMENT

The Cape Atlantic Tigers are holding the Tiger Tussle II on July 18, 19, &
20th in 2004.  This 2nd
Annual College showcase tournament promises to bring
more quality players from across the country to our town (Hammonton), which
is located just 25 miles from
Atlantic City , NJ .

IN THIS NEW YEAR

I wish we had laws similar to Great Britain ; we would not have to hear about Scott Peterson or Jacko until their cases were concluded.

I wish Paris Hilton would join a convent.  My youngest persuaded me to watch five minutes of her TV show, which seems mainly to exist to reveal as much skin as possible – and to take advantage of her notoriety.  Only Jessica Simpson could make her look smart.  Realistically, if Bob Hope were alive, he would be in Iraq on tour – and put Paris on the stage which would do a lot more for morale than seeing Hillary Clinton.

My youngest wanted to know if I had seen Pari’s video; just as I said no, my 25 year old came into the room and told her 22 yr old sister that I was at the age when men no longer have an interest in sex, naked women, etc.  I aged a bunch during that conversation.

My New Year’s resolutions: lose weight; eat healthy.

See more film classics and encourage others.  Most people only know Edgar Buchanan as a slumped-over drunk, often a judge, but I saw a Cary Grant movie in which Edgar changed a baby diaper – with dexterity.

We can’t fire Danny Snyder – but a whole bunch of long-time Redskins fans like me have put their season tickets up for sale – for every game in 2004.

If you are ever in the Northern Virginia area, do see the new Air & Space Museum near Dulles.  The Enola Gay, a space shuttle, an SR 71 spy plane, an early 707, and one of the last of the Concordes are there – along with so many aircraft that you can, in an hour or two, literally retrace the history of manned flight.
