THE MAGAZINE
After eight months, an expenditure of more than $5,000, three changes of web designers and four changes of software, and two changes of merchant banks, the magazine is finally on line as a bimonthly publication, ready for subscription through Pay Pal.
Indeed, the first four volumes are all on line and Volume 5 is in the works. (see content)
To subscribe: log on to: http://www.spysoftballthemagazine.com.
The sign-in page is rather unique, with revolving photos.
You will be asked to subscribe; in that process, you will create a unique ID and password which you will then use, as often as desired, to read the various editions. Since much of the photographic material is in the public domain, SPY magazine is not copyrighted.

A Note About
Photos
Many of the photos appearing in these volumes were taken by
SPY, others are from public sources, eg, UCLA.
A very special thanks goes to the organizers of the ASA Gold National

There is a software trade-off. It is very easy to download photos from any source to Front Page, which we use to publish the daily news service, but Front Page is unwieldy when you amass as much material as SPY generates for the magazine. Macromedia’s Contribute, a Dreamweaver offset, is very much a text-oriented software, but, once you learn how to create the interlocking hyperlinks, text creation is simpler than Front Page. However, you will notice that some of the picture blocks are blank – and you have to click on the picture to see it. Some photo pages worked better if we first downloaded each photo, one at a time, into Word, then transferred them one at a time onto Contribute photo pages. But, that’s arduous with 15 pages of just Gold photos. So, bear with us as we try to find a better way. Thanks.
Improvement in
the News Service
With the SPY Magazine finally online, we are starting work on a major improvement in the News Service. We are constantly archiving dated material, but still leave too much online for readers who want to “look back.” By the end of the year, we will provide a new service which many readers have requested: a search and retrieval system. If you want to locate every mention of Jennie Finch, for example, you will be able to enter Jennie’s name and the system will identify all the hits, by name of article and date. Not too shabby for a free service.
