Michigan. S/S Northwestern. Big 10 Title at stake; Michigan must sweep.
California. Friday lost to Oregon State 2-0. Brianne McGowan (W) and Kelly Anderson (L) each tossed a theree-hitter but the Beavers strengthened thgeir grasp on the PAC 10 top rung with 2 runs in the top of the 4th. Mia Longfellow singled to center to start the inning, and advanced to 2nd on a sac bunt by Vanessa Iapala. Lisa Allen doubled with two out to bringnin the first run. McGowan immediately followed with an rbi double right center for the final run. Cal threatened in the 2nd when Julie Meyer hit a two-out double but was stranded. Cal bunched two of its hits in the 7th. XChelsea Spencer started the bottom of the 7th with a single, but was forced at 2nd by Jessica Pamanian. Cal reached n3rd when Emily Freidman singled to center but Meyer struck out to end the game. S/S Oregon

Texas A&M. Big 12 May 11 #1 seed
Stanford. Friday beat Oregon 5-1. The fourth-ranked Stanford Cardinal capitalized on five Oregon errors to defeat the Ducks 5-1 at Smith Family Stadium Friday evening. The loss snaps a five-game win streak for the Ducks (32-20 overall, 5-11 Pacific-10 Conference) and the Cardinal improve to 38-11, 11-5 with the win.
Stanford left fielder Jackie Rinehart led off the second inning with an infield single and came around to score later in the inning on an RBI by Tricia Aggabao to give the Cardinal the first lead of the game, 1-0. Catcher Leah Nelson made it 2-0 in the third inning, driving in center fielder Catalina Morris, who had doubled to lead off the inning.
Nelson and Morris combined again in the fifth inning after Morris singled with one out and advanced to second on a passed ball. Nelson drove her in with a two-out single to center field and third baseman Michelle Smith scored later in the inning after an Oregon error to extend the Cardinal lead to 4-0 after five complete innings.
Designated player Anna Beardman scored another unearned run for Stanford in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 5-0
Oregon had a single each by Breanne Sabol, Beth Boskovich and Ashley Richards to load the base with one out in the first inning, but Cardinal pitcher Becky McCullough retired the next two batters to prevent the Ducks from scoring. McCullough scattered just two hits over the next five innings of play and retired 15 of 17 batters.
The Ducks rallied in the seventh inning after a one-out double by T.J. Eadus and a single by Kayleen Hudson. Freshman Joanna Gail had her second RBI in as many games to score pinch runner Dani Baird and put the Ducks on the board. It was as close as Oregon got as the Cardinal defense turned a double play and McCullough forced a pop out to end the game.
Junior pitcher Amy Harris (15-11) took the loss for Oregon and had four strikeouts to move to second all-time at Oregon with 447 career strikeouts. S/S Oregon State

UCLA. Friday defeated Arizona 6-0. In one of her better 2005 appearances, Lisa Dodd shut-out the Wildcats with a hard-to-hit changeup, backed up by a solid defense, and an offense that chipped away at UofA starter Leslie Wolf. After Cailin Benyi doubled, Emily Zaplatosch singled for one run and Kristen Dedmon hit a bloop single for the second run. Caitlin Benyi scored her second run of the game on a Zaplatosch rbi in the 6th. Zaplatosch swcored on an rbi groundout by Krista Colburn. Dodd also drove in a run (Jodie Legaspi single) as the Bruins brought eight batters to the plate in the 6th. Benyi capped her good night with a solo HR in the 7th. The Wildcats rallied in their last stand. Courtney Fossatti out ran a bunt single. Allyson von Liechtenstein singled. Caitlin Lowe slapped her second hit to load the bases with one out. Autumn Champion ground to short, and Jodie Legaspie threw home for the force. Kristie Fox grounded back to Dodd. The win clinched the season-sweep for the Bruins, who defeated Arizona 9-1 and 5-4 earlier in the season in Los Angeles. It marked the first three-game win streak against the Wildcats since 1995. Arizona had won 27 of the last 35 games in the series entering the season. S/S Arizona State.

Nevada 14-0 in Game 1. As powerful
as the offense was this night, particularly that 8-run torrent in the top of the
7th, Jamie Southern (W) never let Nevada into the game. M Nevada got
two hits in the 5th, and one each in the last two innings. Kristen
Sylvester drove in 2 runs in the top of the 1st. Leticia Pacheco
singled in a run in the 3rd, two fielding errors allowed two more
runs. Rachael Donaldson homered in the 5th, 6-0. In the 7th,
Pacheco doubled and scored on Pacheco’s single. Donaldson walked, and Jenna
Cervantez cranked a 3-run homer. Kristy Vilasenor singled and scored on
Christina Clark’s double. Southern drove ina run, before Nicole Willis hammered
a 2-run homer, 14-0. Nevada got a single from Candice Rainwater and Lindsey
Hall reached on an error, but the rally ended. Southern improved to 23-3.
Jordan McPherson (11-9) too the loss. Game 2

Fresno
State banged out 12 hits but Nevada hung tough and FSU took a 5-3 win, Southern
(relief) again besting McPherson. Willis continued to wield a heavy bat,
belting a 2-run HR in the top of the 1st. Nevada wasted a double by
Kristen Stith in the 1st, but solved FSU starter Amanda Nesbitt in the 2nd.
Rainwater doubled; Vanessa Briones singled, and Ashley Ablahani drove in a run.
Southern doubled and scored on Pacheco’s single, another run scoring on an
error, 4-1. Again Nevada rallied, 2 runs scoring in the bottom of the 3rd
on a double by Lindsey Hall. But that was the last run for Nevada. FSU closed
out the scoring on Clark’s home run in the 4th.
Georgia Tech. May 9 Troy St DH. May 12 ACC tournament. Georgia Tech (45-11, 11-4 ACC), ranked 17th in the nation, is the top seed, while Florida State (32-22, 11-6 ACC) is the second seed. Virginia (29-30, 9-8 ACC) is seeded third and NC State (40-23, 7-7 ACC) is the fourth seed. North Carolina (36-25, 9-9 ACC) captured the fifth seed, followed by Maryland (24-19, 5-9 ACC) and Virginia Tech (38-20, 4-13 ACC).

Washington. Friday run-ruled Arizona State 8-0 (5). All the rbi’s were HRs. With two of its first three batters on with walks, the Huskies jumped ahead 3-0 in the 1st on Kathy Fiske’s home run.
