MORE BATBUSTER SATURDAY

Batbuster Sunday, when we post it, probably on Monday, will be limited to games at Alicia – games at the other four parks were cancelled early Sunday because of poor field conditions, following a night of rain.

Additional Game Notes

Corona Angels 8, TX Storm 0.  Three months past her 15th birthday, Victoria Tyson made her Batbuster Tournament debut pitching this complete game shutout.  Dad Marty, whose pitching corps is injured, will keep Tori up.  Lisamarie Coronado hit a leadoff triple and scored.  Christina Schallig also tripled and scored.  Desiree Fink and Brook Phipps both scored on an error at home, boosting the score to 5-0.  Neena Bryant settled all doubts by crushing a 3-run homer.  Danye’ Holmes pitched for the Texans.

OC Batbusters Davis 4, CA Breeze DM 3.  Marissa  Alvidrez got the win.

USA Athletics 3, WA Lake Breeze 2.  Megan Zimmerer’s 2-run single nailed this come-from-behind victory.

Texas Storm Gold 2, CA Cruisers 2.  Our first report was from the Cruisers.  Now, we report how the Storm came back to tie.  Tori Martin and Kelsie Hansen reached safely.  Danye’ Holmes singled in a run.  Loryn Johnson hit a sac fly. Kimber Bossom pitched the first three innings; Megan Shupp the last three.

L’il Saints 8, Beach Girls 0.  Lanie Roth belted a 2-run homer in the first inning. Stephanie Draper pitched.

OC Batbusters GH1 5, Vancouver Ford 1.  The anticipation of a duel between Amanda Williams and Whitney Baker attracted a score of college coaches, but the pitching foes were determined in Ford’s previous game between Ford and Strike Zone when Baker was hit on the kneecap by a line drive – so hard that you could see the stitches of the ball on her skin.  Baker did come back to pitch Ford’s 7-0 win over the AZ Cats, but Ford turned to Brooke Woodward against the Batbusters.  Williams had 10 Ks but she hung a curve which Dani Stuart drilled for a home run.  Amanda also had a dozen K’s in their 7-0 first game win over Strike Zone, a 2-hitter.

American Pastime Gold 5, West Bay Nuggets 1.  Ashley Veilleux (whose high arm motion reminds of Michelle Grainger – but less velocity) had the game under control until the late innings.  Pastime held a 1-0 lead into the 3rd when Alexis Javier (who doubled and tripled) drove in 2 runs.  Danielle Spaulding drove in a run, and a final run scored on a bases-loaded walk.  An early Nuggets threat started on a double by Nicole Romero but Pastime catcher Alex Gagne (who had impressed us as a volunteer catcher in Friday’s clinic) picked her off 2nd on a snap throw.  Vanessa Truan started for the Nuggets.

Gordon’s Panthers 3, Texas Storm Gold 0.  Sophomore Jordan Taylor pitched another nifty game.  Against TNJ, the Panthers got outstanding work at 3rd from Lauren Lupinetti.  Now, it was Linda Kohan’s turn to work her magic at the keystone – and Kohan iced the game for the injury depleted Panthers with a 2-run homer.

Washington Ladyhawks Blue 2, Jets 1.  Kim Watson got the win.  In the critical inning, Heather Minniti singled; Erin Fisher and Wendy Gray walked to load the bases; Kaci Lewis drove in one run with a single, and Emily Radford drew a bases-loaded walk to win.

Team New Jersey 5, SJ Strikkers 0.  A strong game by Megan Elliott was capped by three home runs: Maddy Coon, Gina Mondo, and Laura Jaxheimer.

Gordon’s Panthers 0, Corona Angels 0.  A game which turned out to be the last of the tournament at Barber featured stout defense and able pitching by Melissa Gomez for the Panthers and Aleah Macon for the Angels.

So Cal Athletics 6, Batbusters Davis 4.  There is always one wild and wooly game and this nightcap at Barber had it all.  The Batbusters drew first blood, taking a 2-0 lead on a 2-run double by Christy Becker.  Brittany Goodchild started for the BBD  but couldn’t get out of the 1st.  Marissa Marinacci walked with one out.  Julie Burney singled.  Charlotte Morgan walked to load the bases.  Krysten Cary and Tracy Dickenson walked to force in two runs.  Jennifer McElroy relieved for the BBD – and Laura Briones welcomed her with a grand slam home run.  The SCA’s would load the bases again un the next inning – only three innings were played when time ran out.  But, the BBD weren’t done.  In the top of the 3rd,  Chelsea Cantillo beat out an infield hit.  Ashley Weber walked.  Britney Moore reached on an error at short to load the bases.  Kristen Pocock popped but Christy Becker’s grounder was misplayed into a 2-run error, and the score changed to 6-4 with two on.  Brooke Frydendall grounded to short to end the rally.  Toni Paisley pitched for the SCA’s.

SPY had planned to see 32 teams during the weekend, and thus regrets that weather caused a premature ending – and we did not get to see some very good teams and players.  Excellent tournament otherwise, with an estimated 150-200 college coaches, many of whom came to Friday’s practice games, and the showcase, and a large number who satyed through the numbing cold of Saturday night.  RFH
