March 3, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Carrying a perfect 13-0 record through the first month of play, North Georgia overtook preseason No. 1 Alabama-Huntsville by just two points to become the top team in the nation in the first 2010 regular-season NFCA Division II Top 25 poll.
Alabama-Huntsville fell just one spot from the preseason rankings to No. 2, while Angelo St., skyrocketed from No. 19 to No. 3. Valdosta St., moved up two spots to No. 6 and Wayne St. (MI) went from 20th to fifth to round out the top five.
The first regular-season poll had its fair share of shake-ups as nine teams fell from the rankings and were replaced by four teams from the receiving votes column and five teams totally new to the poll.
The NFCA Division II Top 25 is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions. 2010 records are shown. First-place votes are in parentheses.
The next NFCA Division II Top 25 poll will be released on Wednesday, March 10.
