Vestavia AL sends 6 to D1
Vestavia Hills High school in Vestavia Hills, AL has had 6 of their seniors sign. Vestavia is a suburb of Birmingham, AL.
What is unique about this is that all 6 have signed at D1 schools. Catherine Dozier & Whitney Larson with Alabama. Ali Bainbridge & Jessie Spain with Mississippi State. Katie MeGahee with Auburn and Caley Walden with Univ. of Alabama Birmingham (UAB). Having 6 sign D1 scholarships from one high school has never happened in the state of Alabama
NOTE ON ASA REGION 3
The combining of ASA national berths by the three ASA Commissioners in Virginia does not involve Gold. Region 3 will continue to compete for a single Gold berth. At least for 2007, the 18A competition will also be on a Region 3 basis.
NO RESTRICTIONS ON COLLEGE PLAYERS
A rumor circulating among some college coaches is inaccurate. The ASA Council did not change age eligibility; its still 19 and under for JO ball. College players who are age eligible can still compete at the JO level.
POTPOURRI
Chad. Did anyone notice that civil war broke out again in Chad? As if Africa didnt have enough problems with poverty, AIDS and hunger, the WHO estimates 3,000 people die every day from malaria. The son of one African dictator, who earns $30,000 a year, just bought a $2.5 million estate in Malibu. His papa takes a % of enerything.
Manny Acta. Less than a week after the Washington Post, citing confidential sources, said Acta had taken his name out of consideration, Acta was named the new manager of the Washington Nationals.
The Rich Get Richer. The government claims that Franklin Raines, the ousted chairman of Fannie Mae, enriched himself by overstating finances which boosted his bonuses, but a court this week said Raines could indeed have a lump sum payment of more than $2 million. Hopefully, the Justice Department will pare his compensation to true earnings.
