QUICK COMMENT 0N 43 FEET
We talked to a number of Gold coaches on Friday at the Batbuster. While this is not a scientific sampling, and certainly not comprehensive, only two said it was unnecessary. While a dozen or more others support the extension, several said it should have had a one-year delay, to allow not just practice at that distance, but to allow the various exposure tournaments more time to prepare. And, every coach agreed ASA should have extended 18A and not just a few would have expanded 16U as well. The expectation is that the major exposure tournaments will go to 43 feet and all teams, including 18A, will pitch from 43 feet. There was uniform agreement among these coaches that ASA inadvertently discriminated against 18A vis a vis the college recruiting process. More to come. RH
