MORE BATBUSTER
The pitcher for the So Cal Breakers pitched a 2-0 no-hitter against the NJ Pride. But the Breakers roster was not in the coaches guide.
The pitcher in the Batbusters GH 1-0 game was Donna Kerr.
The pitcher in the Beach Girls 2-0 win over Cal Lite was named Brittany, but Joe Botti’s roster was not in the book and of course we didn’t get to see them on Sunday as planned, but we did get some info. Brittany Barnhill plays for Ft. Batbusters (Tx.), but was picked up for Beach Girls . She threw a 1-hit shut out with no walks against Cal. Lite Saturday. She is a sophomore who turned 16 this month. A 6' red head whom Texans say throws hard (65-68)
AZ Hotshots Neuman 1, NJ Pride 0. Good defensive game won in the last inning. Kayla Zinger pitched for the Hotshots, Jennifer Sutliff for the Pride. Both worked out of jams. The Pride’s biggest threat came in the 5th with a runner on, but the Hotshots pulled a double play. The Hotshots defeated the So Cal Breakers (BB) 4-1, going 3-0 for the (shortened) weekend.
Sorcerer Gold gave up no runs and only one hit in
four shutout victories at
Alicia Park. Valerie Ariota (07), Marissa Drewery (06) and Letti Olivarez (06),
equally split innings for Sorcerer in all four wins. Saturday scores were
Sorcerer Gold 5 Texas Heat Gold 0, a combined no hitter. Sorcerer Gold 2 Colo.
Stars Gold 0, a combined no hitter. Sorcerer Gold 6 South Bay Pride O, a
combined one hitter. On Sunday, Sorcerer Gold defeated REDRUM 8-0 on a
combined no hitter. Their fifth game was rained out.
AZ Hotshots Gold gave up no earned runs. Kelly Yarmer and Dani Gonzales homered.
Team New Jersey pitchers Missy Penna and Megan Elliott drew a lot of attention, but Nicole Ayres (06) had a very good weekend as a reliever, in practice games as well as pool. She pitched the last 3 innings of the Grapettes game - 5 Ks,no hits, no runs. 1 inning of Texas Impact- 2 Ks, no hits, no runs. 5 innings of the SJ Strikkers game - 13 Ks, 2 hits, 1 walk, no runs. 2 innings of the Panthers game- 6 Ks, 1 hit, no runs.

NEW ON THE SOFTBALL SCENE
St John’s new head coach, Debbie DeJong, and new red-headed assistant Kathy Freany, were busy scouting and watching new recruit Lauren Lupinetti.
Georgia head coach Lu Harris and grandmother were proudly showing pictures of the twins – Emma and Jenna -- redheads with a devilish twinkle in their eyes.
UCLA assistant Kelly Inouye gave birth to a girl, Kylie, on November 10.
(I know a bit about redheads; my ex was a redhead when we married, a rocket scientist of Russian-Czech-Polish ancestry; she was as volatile as an ICBM.)
IN MEMORIAM
Forty-one years – and the personal and professional memories of President John F. Kennedy burn as brightly as the eternal flame at Arlington National Cemetery. Just the mention of Dallas, in any kind of story, summons the images – Elm Street, the Texas School Book Depository, the Freeway and overpass. Lee Harvey Oswald did more than assassinate a President, he deprived my generation of its charismatic leader. Our innocence died with Jack Kennedy. At breakfast this morning in Los Angeles, my youngest daughter asked when I became such a cynic, and I told her November 22, 1963. I think I first realized the full ramifications of his death standing in the great rotunda of our Capitol, when Jackie kissed the coffin, we knew were saying goodbye, not just to JFK but our youthful belief in the sanctity of life, and the moral nature of opinion.
DEATH BY ASSAULT RIFLE?
The rifle which claimed the lives of five hunters in Wisconsin, a dispute over a tree stand, will raise anew the questions about the sale of assault rifles because that is how the weapon was described in the first news reports.. I am in support of hunting in general; my father was a hunter but I am not for reasons unrelated to the killing of animals. My question concerns more than the type of guns sold. But, is the gun the issue? Police said the weapon was an SKS 7.62 mm semiautomatic rifle, which they described as a common hunting weapon. Whatever gun was used, there is an issue here – and in the NBA, and in NCAA football (two incidents) – of anger management. We all need to think about that – myself included. Whether we are behind the wheel, witnessing a sporting event, or simply arguing with spouse or children, we must learn to control our reactions.
