CLINIC AND VIDEO POSTINGS
Publicizing the video tapes made by US Olympic Coach Mike Candrea and other national team coaches has opened a door. I posted a note about these tapes because I have seen the work, know all the performers quite well, and had promised Mike I would note their availability, which helps fund the USA Olympic/national teams via USA Softball.
I will maintain my somewhat elastic rule of not promoting camps, clinics, video tapes, etc. where I don’t know the instructors and have not seen the tapes. I went through a situation where a group whose clinic dates I simply posted was claiming that SPY had endorsed the clinic. Since SPY doesn’t charge readers, and is not paid for notices it posts, SPY can reserve editorial judgment. Two videos are now being reviewed but SPY has precious little time for such reviews, so don’t deluge me.
But, as a service, SPY will maintain two sites on the left-hand column of SPY’s home page for camps, clinics, videos, etc.

POOPER SNOOPERS
Johns Hopkins is universally considered America’s finest hospital. Team coordination is a root factor as well as the acknowledged skills of its first-class staff. That coordination, and the exhaustive patient summaries made known via computer to all medical staff with a need to know, was amply demonstrated November 1 when I underwent an annual colonoscopy. (Hate that poop goop) I sensed something different when I was moved from the outpatient center, where the previous colonoscopy procedures were conducted, to the main hospital. When they wheeled me into a small OR, I asked a nurse why a sizeable crowd had assembled, and trying to instill some humor into the situation, I said, “This looks like a meeting of the Hopkins pooper snooper society. I should have sold tickets.” No one laughed; I was told I was a “problem” patient. Having made an effort to be friendly, I was surprised. “Not personality” the nurse replied. “You’ve had seven malignant tumors removed in less than three years; you’re Type 2 diabetic; you’ve been diagnosed with sleep apnea; your blood pressure is high; you woke up during colonrectal surgery and were talking; you’ve got severe nerve damage from numerous injuries, your arms and hands are impaired by surgery-related neuropathy, and one of the neurosurgeons says you display early warning signs of Parkinson’s. First sign of a problem outside your colon, you’re going into main OR with one or more of these specialists.” Sure put a damper on further banter – that and being anesthesized by a drug which would put King Kong on the ground. The colon was cleaner than a hound’s tooth after removing four polyps, and a brain scan today disclosed only that I had one; but another round of tests next week. I am determined to make the Batbuster pre-Thanksgiving tournament. Meanwhile, I appreciate all the scores and updates.
JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS
With a pair of turbochargers force-feeding its already potent Dodge Viper-sourced 8.0 liter V10, the gull-winged Bristol Fighter SCR ups the (metric) horsepower ante to 1012; or 11 more than the previous king, the Bugatti Veyron. Bristol Cars claims that its Fighter SCR is capable of 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 435 km/h (270 mph), but is electronically limited to a mere 362 km/h (225 mph). Hmm. If true, that's Veyron-level performance (on paper at least). (SPY’s question: Why? You can’t light the back burners on these monsters on American highways.)
